Extreme nitpick mode = on: I’d have probably probably stopped the lens down a bit. Maybe F4-F5.6 perhaps would’ve done it.  Components closer to the camera are slightly out of focus, so clawing back some depth of field would probably help. With some distance from the backdrop, you’ll still retain plenty of that wonderful astigmatism in image form. 😛

Nitpick mode = off: Not bad there.

My turn for a computer (or rather, board and CPU) pic.

18mm focal length (x2.7 crop), F5.6, ISO 125. An external flash bounced from above was used for lighting. The idea was to extract as much detail as possible (it was a wood surface, hence the yellow tinge). I wanted to demonstrate to work about being able to make easily legible assembly training documents, so I wouldn’t call it art so much as practical photography. The phone up top is there just for comparison of how far we’ve come.

Blowing up the pic holds up rather well on my 4K TV. There should be plenty of detail to see close up as well.

I should have stopped down some but I took this months ago. I’ll retake my system picture when I got my helios44 in. Just for some weird bokeh
It is part of what I hate small camera screens can’t check focus for shit.

Small camera screens have bit me in the past too where the focus is missed ever so slightly on an otherwise good shot. It was kind of irritating to get a large print back (expensive) and realize that I’d missed focus by maybe an inch or so. I’m pretty obsessive about making sure focus is dead on now.

I'll likely be grabbing a 7in display to fix that issue because I mostly shoot video.

Main things about this photo is that some of the board is cut off and there's a lot of dead space at the top, so definitely centre and align the object.

The angle also feels a bit off, perhaps try a longer focal length so the perspective is less accentuated, or dead centre over the top so it's more even. Although if it's for assembly instructions, it might help to take the photo from where someone might normally be looking at the board from. (Sorry if I'm being too critical)

Fair critique. I could’ve taken more time with it. It wasn’t even something I planned on ever posting tbh, as it was primarily experimental in both getting the sharpest point of the lens, and reducing shadows of small components. It was kind of the color cast that had me cut the shooting short, actually. Definitely shouldn’t have been posted (PM would’ve been more appropriate),  but live and learn.

I like the shot above. Definitely a 10/10.

Canon G7X mkII, 36.8mm, F2.8, 125 ISO, 1/160. There is definitely a little chromatic aberration going on if you know where to look. Typically, I like shooting smaller subjects at F4, though getting some extra shutter speed took precedence here, and it’s faster to twist the control ring for wide-open than it is to use the touch control for higher ISO.

Is the lens cracked? On the lower right corner, I see something that looks like a crack, though that could be the statue as well. Really like the shot though. I’d like to get a medium format film camera one of these days.

Going back to the comment, part of it is that, by this point, I feel I’ve some idea as to how to squeeze out the best image quality from the camera. Where the camera performs it’s best, and where it falters, and capturing what I want while playing as close to the camera’s strengths as possible. Getting exposure as far right as possible (the in-built histogram is actually inaccurate, as I can push exposure another stop before highlights cannot be recovered in post).

Here’s what’s probably one of my favorite portrait shots I’ve gotten out of my camera. Again, Canon G7x mkii. 36.8mm at F2.8, ISO 400, 1/125. The pop-up flash was used at low power to bring up the shadows a very slight bit.  Set up was minimal, just saw the moment and took it. Made a pretty decent 11 x 14 for the parents too.

I noticed the odd hand gesture (definitely not a peace gesture), but the meaning was utterly lost on me.

I really like it but something about how the tree area is doesn't feel right.

That's a really cute pic, and the background is bokeh'd nicely. If I had to criticize one part, I would've used it at a higher F number so the hind quarter of the dog was a bit sharper, but that's a real nitpick.

I have to like anyone who rocks a Pentax, but that aside I have some positive and constructive comments. The constructive are that the blacks seem a bit at the extreme end, perhaps obfuscating some detail that might otherwise add to the photo. Overall, it seems a bit underexposed - though if you were going for a moody/bleak kind of look it would certainly fit. What I like is the composition where the broken tree is in front of the straight one. It's almost like if one path becomes unavailable, there's another way. Thanks for sharing!

My photo below is of Western Norway shot with a Canon 6D and 16-35 f/2.8L lens. The goal was to try to capture the look of multiple seasons in one shot while anchoring with a foreground shot of the curious shed and blue door.

it feels like it was over saturated so much some of the details in the hill because of that. I do however like the composition

Frankly, this photo could be better. It's out of focus, underexposed, grainy, and the only thing even slightly going for it is mediocre bokeh. The composition centers it instead of any "rule of thirds" or "Fibonacci" technique. Very uninteresting.

Funny thing is most people are only going to pay attention the motion blur. its also not of something most people see every day.

My grandpas old Pentax I got out, cleaned up and will likely mostly use the lens from it. I'll see how it compares to modern glass when order an adaptor

My Dad has an old film SLR somewhere, I need to remember to bug him about finding it so I can try "the good old days" (the only film cameras I've really used have been the point-and-shoot variety).

the only film I got expired in 2006. I live somewhere where its trendy to use film so it wouldn't be hard for me to get more or have it developed

I like the composition. Probably because of the resolution, I can’t tell it the edge of the lens is slightly out of focus. Perhaps stopping down by maybe a third stop would ensure the entire subject is in focus, though if it already is, you can disregard this.

Taken on my Canon G7X mkII. 38.6 mm (x2.7 crop), F2.8, 1/2000 and ISO 125. The pop up flash was used at the lowest power setting.

it isn't all in focus but that wasn't my goal for it. I just got back from a 2 day trip into the mountains so later tonight I'll have some pictures up from it.

So I bought a disposable Nikon D100 and lens to shoot from within a 5k Colour run.

I fully expected to kill the Nikon.

Nope, still ran fine.

I like it. For some reason the composition with the newspaper in the foreground, non-staged coloring on the body/lens, and the bokeh.. it tells a story like all good photos should.
