I think it would have worked slightly better had you moved down a little. For me, I find the light area, presumably the water, a little distracting hence the thought to drop a little lower. Just my thoughts.

Here is a shot of a mason bee cleaning itself. A single frame taken handheld in the wild with the Canon MPE-65 at about 3.5* magnification. Lighting was with a diffused Yongnou twin flash attached to a Canon 80D. As the evenings cool down in August these solitary bees find a flower to settle down in for the night so if you are lucky you can find them before they bury themselves deep in the flower.

Ok, now I feel obligated to get this thing back on track a little because of your response! But, by doing that with a photo, I do the same thing that was done to me! So. I won't post a photo and I hope the next poster might consider reviewing the macros from MediaWarlock above. 

 

I like it! That 5:1 macro on a crop and to nail the best slice you could. I almost said nearly, but the eye looks really good to me! The texture seems soft to me a bit because of the lack of specular highlights but it's not. I might bump up the whites, I might not. At 3.5 mag, I imagine you had fun dialing this in! I really enjoy watching them go to town on the thistle.

Pretty nice composition, but unfortunatley you can see the camera in the eye of the person, which is unfortunate, and hard to overcome

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

 

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

Not a ton of dynamic range and a little under exposed so you are loosing details in the darks. But the contrast on the metal handles looks dope.

 

 

Here's a pic I shot on my iPhone at dusk without looking at the screen hoping the composition was decent.

Just keeping this here as a That's a rather nice shot. The expression on the girl's face is pretty great. My one gripe though is that I think the depth of field is quite narrow here. Her head kind of seems to jump out at me a bit relative to the rest of the body and it kind of feels mildly unnatural. I take it a particularly fast lens was used, probably an F1.2 or F1.4 aperture lens on an A7R, presumably to work with what appears to be a pretty dark area. A larger subject, and I'd be inclined to believe you were using Medium Format. ?

 

A little more depth of field to get her body in focus, I think would've helped, albeit, at the cost of raising the ISO, though with such a high resolution, I think you could easily get away with it. Her body language and clothing has a bit of a story there too. Otherwise though, composition and lighting are spot on, love the lighting especially. 

 

My turn. Please forgive the relative blurriness. I took the shot (in the shot) on my sister's Instax Mini 7S. I don't have any way of scanning it and the photo itself is in San Fransisco now, so I just used what I had to keep a copy, IE my phone.

On a technical front, there is a bit of glow to the image, not unlike a minolta lens that has fogged up from the inside. I don't know how much the compression on the LTT forums had to do with the photo looking like this, but there it's also not quite sharp. Zooming in, some parts of the image appear unfocused, though your fingerprints appear perfectly visible. It's subjectively too much fog technically, and too little fog stylistically. If the effect wasn't intentional, consider doing some selective defogging/dehazing in your editor of choice. 

 

Onto the photo itself. I like the concept here; the tried and true frame within a frame kind of look. However, while the smaller frame itself stands out, I don't think the background fits with the photo that well. Composition wise, you're probably a little too close to bring attention to the background. If you were to zoom out by A LOT, and then choose a background accordingly, it may work to your advantage. Say you to go a location corresponding to the setting in the photo. If you edit accordingly, the pic will probably be a banger'.

No fogging was added. The instax shot looked a heck of a lot sharper in person, and the phone camera resolved my fingerprint just fine. Tbh, I'm not sure why the instax shot looks so unfocused. Maybe the phone's processing was responsible for the botch job. Which is a shame, I really liked the Instax shot, but I can't get anything better of it at this time.

 

One thing to note is that Instax Monochrome is actually a dark Cyan, and not true black and white

Love the long exposure pictures. Was an ND filter in use as well?

I can definitely tell it was taken at a low shutter speed and was hand held as the image isn't very sharp, it's also very noisy for iso 800 so im guessing this was taken with a relatively old camera?

7/10.  Excellent detail, bokeh is on point, I see you also lined the bottles in a row to add a middle background.  However, the blurred area is the same color as the subject, so nothing really "pops" here besides the bubbles. 

 

Also, this feels like a Coca-Cola ad or something.  Therefore, a brand would be cool.  I'm aware that you probably have intentionally hidden labels, so I'm not really taking points off for that.

 

F5, 1/400, 80 ISO - Shot on the WX500 from Sony, so yeah there's noise.  Same sensor size as a phone, roughly.

Yeah, the shutter was 1/15. Probably a tad ambitious on my part, though I needed every bit of light I could find here. With a steady hand, 1/15 can be quite sharp due to the IS (I've gotten sharp images at 1/8], though it does nothing for the motion blur with a moving subject.

 

I shoot with a Canon G7X mkII. What occured was that when the fog was running, I spotted a really nice composition, and the actor happened to be right there. I was part of the stage crew, so there was maybe 30 seconds before I had to be elsewhere. Camera was already in Aperture Priority with ISO set to 125, but it looked like mush. Kind of feeling the pinch, I rammed the ISO to 800 so as to get something usable. I wasn't willing to lose any more sharpness in post, so noise reduction was relatively minimal (about 30 in Lightroom).

 

Given the conditions imposed, I have to wonder if I'd legitimately squeezed every bit of image quality from the camera, or if I could've gotten something cleaner with a third shot. Were I to sacrifice the background separation in using a shorter focal length, F1.8 aperture becomes available, though this particular camera suffers distortion at 8.8mm (x2.7 for crop factor) as the image circle doesn't cover the entire sensor.

@ka_re_t the slight angle bothers me. The white balance seems a little off

SL2 18-135

1/125 F5.5 ISO 100. Cloudy WB

Interesting pairing two ever so slightly different images in tandium. Creates a unique situation where one's eyes scan back and forth comparing details, perhaps checking to see if they are Infact the same. 

 

Composition is on point and the image is very moody which I appreciate. I like the balance of the trees and buildings. Not having a singular point of focus I suppose benefits having the two images paired. 

 

If it were a single image I would normally expect a payoff detail like a bird in the sky of something similar

Natural light is brilliant for portraits and with the sun going down it certainly adds lots of tangible emotion for the model to play off of. I like the pose as she leads focus to the face but wish she pulled at her lip to create tension in the image vs hiding part of the lip detail. The background is a bit distracting with the lines fighting for attention and even more so being angular. Also there are specular highlights in the eyes, which is great, but it seems understated given how bright the skin highlights are which also fights for attention with the jewels. The overly red cast across the image and skin is a bit uncomfortable. Maybe a reflective material bouncing some of the natural light on the shadow side would have popped the eyes and smoothed the skin details every so slightly

I can tell the wide angle did some weird things around the edges.

 a7iii with mostly rokkor glass.  above 16mm fisheye f/2.8 @ maybe stopped down a bit 640 1/3400

 

I love photos that convey stories and emotion! Excellent night shot full of interest. The redness flooding the scene really allows the contrasting light in the centre to become a focal point that aligns with pleasing water cannon effect, very strong. Effective composition for drawing ones attention into the frame overall. I would have maybe considered shooting this as a vertical although it does fill the frame well as is. Feels very cinematic and dramatic. Fire and water together in a scene is pure magic

I've got a video I made about that fire. I along with my GF, we shot and edited it rendered in under 2 or 2.5 hours.

These 2 were taken at an event my mom was setting up. Wasn't sure if foreground or background was better so i left in both. The only retouching is adjusting the horizontal angle with a bit of zoom in post. Shot on Galaxy s9.
