Looking for a new router

My aunt needs a new router so I've decided to give her my current D-Link DIR-655 and get myself a new router. Or I could keep this router and buy her a cheaper one, but why give up an excuse to upgrade?

I've narrowed it down to either the Linksys EA4500 or the ASUS RT-N66U. What do you guys think? Or maybe you have another suggestion?

both pretty good devices i have asus routers in my network and they never caused any issues to me ,linksys e900 is the one im getting today and linksys bough cisco so they have pretty impressive background but those 2 routers better than your DIR-655 because they run at 5ghz

Can back up Linksys. Great devices. Can't really say too much about ASUS gear apart from slow power cycles. Would love to see more people purchase routers that can run OpenWRT. Open source, incredibly feature filled since it's equivalent to having a Linux box doing your networking which is quite powerful and great performance gains. Here's mine.

-- "WAN to LAN throughput with the same Openwrt build tops out at about 235mbps. WAN to LAN with the stock firmware is dire, topping out at about 80-100mbps, so Openwrt gives over double the routing speed."

I have a setup that stock firmwares can't really do, hence the need for OpenWRT :)

N66u for sure. It's been voted the best home router, and it's awesome!

Great speeds, great signal strength, plus it has all the features (I.E. it can host a VPN, iTunes, Samba, UPnP and FTP servers). It comes with ASUS's aiCloud which basically lets you access the USB devices plugged into the router remotely on your phone using their software.

Well I ended up buying the N66U. :D

Good choice, if you ever have any problems PM me and I can try and help, or contact ASUS's support (it's great).

Also, make sure you have a recent build of the firmware (ending in a number >= 270)

Thanks. Yeah, the first thing I did was update the firmware.  :)
