[build log] diagonalmod: first stage complete

zspWSzy.jpg

intro + design

Hello everyone!

A couple months ago I made the forum topic “concept diagonalmod” http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/104747-concept-diagonal-build-in-cm690-adv-ii/ with lots of 3D-rendered pictures.

The main reason for mounting everything diagonal is because “I want to be unique” and the diagonal parts of the case would follow my 45° angled wall

Every watercooling component is going to be from EK as I love their design. I didn’t want too many rounded edges. I also wanted to fit the biggest radiator that would fit while keeping the motherboard at a 45° angle. So it’s a 3*140 rad.

Made the 3d file as accurate as I could

I probably will put some RGB LEDs in it. Maybe I will let the color depend on the music playing.

materials:

metal sheets

plastic panels (also for the inner orange parts with glossy orange sticker painted with orange spray paint)

etc

watercooling components: (received)

gpu: EK-Thermosphere – Nickel (their newest universal one)

cpu: EK-Supremacy Clean CSQ – Nickel

coolant: EK-Ekoolant CLEAR (premix 1000mL) (probably will dye this blue or orange)

fittings: all EK-HD things

tubing: EK-HD Tube 10/12mm (hard tubing)

pump+res: EK-DDC 3.2 PWM X-RES 140

rad: EK-CoolStream RAD XTC (420)

the 420 radiator makes the rest look smaller than they are in my opinion

computer components: (already had most of these)

cpu: intel i5 3570k 3.4ghz (now at 4.5 stable with watercooling)

motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43

ram: 4*4GB 1600MHz kingston

gpu: msi GTX770 gamingOC

case: coolermaster 690II adv (you won’t recognize it anymore)

storage: Adata128GB, corsairForceGT 64GB, WDblack1TB (haven’t fully decided on a place for them)

PSU: antecPlatinum 650W

Update:
metalwork case: cutting holes

ViLeDG5.png

i love the dremel. Going to replace this with a new plate.

Fr4WAc4.png

All mayor holes are cut now. I did a test fit with the radiator. As expected I only have about 15mm left in total (left to right) fans are going on top of this, so in pull. I will probably seal the gaps with some kind of mousse later on.

Update:

making the motherboard tray

GwF6Gfn.jpg

so i made this mobo tray holder (the original motherboard tray still is behind the motherboard)

33WyzhD.jpg

i mounted the tray with these bolts. idk if i am going to paint them

GHSTdk3.png

there maybe is 1mm between the mobo IO and the radiator. All according to plan

WFNuoJJ.jpg

the previous picture concludes to this one. i only have 1cm of free space left behind the mobo. Still according to plan off coarse B) (the plastic sheet is so damn thick)

Update:

making motherboard tray holders

YHlFedW.jpg
i printed these out with my own 3D-printer
then i heated the nuts and melted them into the holes (that were 0,5 mm too small)
these will connect the big plastic plate with the metal of the case

Update:

carbon wrap

1c63d0e3140a1100e555269ad1400387.png

Today i wrapped the first 2 pieces in this carbon wrap (3M di-noc).

I expected this material to be a lot harder to handle. Also, i had 0 bubbles on the first try. (i guess thats why there was "bubble free" on the description")

9d1f83e3419f3bbe5106fa8ea2eabc14.png

made a picture of them lying in the grass for better idea of its color

edit: i probably will not use these anymore, but i could wrap some other parts
