Want to overclock my 6800k, help?

Go to solution Solved by PokémonTrainerFour,

Get a CM Hyper 212 Evo, it's $30 and it has good performance.

Just go bit by bit, raising the clock speed until it's unstable, then raise the voltage a bit and go back to the beginning. Don't try to push 5GHz, though.

It all really depends on if you have a golden chip or not.

I am very new to the whole overclocking idea, so I am hoping to get tips of this forum!

I am currently using:

GA-F2A75M-HD2 (MB)

A10-6800k AMD (APU) (standard out of the box cooling)

Dual channel DDR-3 1866Mhz CL 9-10-9-28, 16Gb EVO Potenza (RAM)

SATA 600, 2TB Seagate (SSHD)

Radeon HD 7950 '13 series (Videocard)

650 Watt MS-N650 GD (Power supply)

And I am looking for a nice overclocking option for my 6800k.

I most likely need a new cooler for overclocking + the voltages for the APU Etc.

Could you guys tell me, what kind of cooler would be a good option + voltages for an optimal & stable APU?

Thanks alot,

BasZz2119

Grab an h100i if you just want to plug it in and hit go.

Voltages are a lot of trial and error, just don't push them to hard and go up SLOWLY.

It depends on how "blessed" your APU is.

H100i is waay too overkill for a cheap APU. With that kind of money you can sell your APU + board and upgrade.

Get a Hyper T4 or a 212 EVO and just try see what you can do at a 1.4vcore.

@skippy

I was just gonna say the same as Harry, the APU did barely cost that much..

@Hurrynowl

Okay Air coolers look good

@PTF

Looks like EVO has already 2 votes, and can you go more into detail about "unstable" how do you see that?

You are right the h100i is too expensive for that cheap APU. I got my h100i at a stupid cheap price so I just threw it in.

I would love to see a 6800k at 5GHz :).

May I ask why you went with an APU and a 7950. IMO an fx-6300 or so would have been a better CPU.

Be sure to run prime 95 for quite a long time once you get it "stable"

Stable: not crashing all over the place and boots up without any problems :)

If it crashes while running prime 95 it is not 100% stable

@Skippy

I went for a deal back than, the motherboard with RAM.. APU.. that was nice.. and I took 7950 also from another deal because I wanted better FPS.

Okay I got Prime95 and you just run that after successful start-up, any specific configures on that program?

Nope, I like to run Small-FFT when clocking for around 15 mins to test stability, then Blend for 2 hours for my final clock.

Some people recommend 24 hours but I've never had a crash on a CPU that passed 2 hours and it saves the energy bill ;)
