suggestions

okay so this hardware will take awhile for me to get so I'm trying to make sure any shortcuts are worth it so here's the list.

(just the raw hardware)

Asrock Z97 extreme3 LGA 1150

I7-4770K $330 or I5-4690k $240

corsair vengeance pro 8gb (2x4gb) 1600mhz

evga 780ti reference cooler

force series ls 120gb ssd

500gb Western digital blue hd

Corsair 450d

So I was going for a blue black theme and these are the  products I plan to buy in the future except the western digital drive i already have that so my main question is the i5-4690k worth saving 80 dollars? also any feedback and suggestions on the rest of the hardware would be helpful.

I'd downgrade to a 780 or 290 and spend the savings on better storage (The ti is only for builds where budget isn't a constraint as it's price/performance isn't very good). And no, unless you plan on taking advantage of the hyper threading of the 4770k, it is not worth the extra 80$ over the 4690k.

Other than that, you might want to reconsider the MOBO, I've heard bad things about Asrock.

If the system is for gaming, get the 4690K, or even a 4670K if you can find it for cheap. If you really want to have a blue and black theme, you should get something like an EVGA GTX 780Ti with the ACX cooler, because the stock cooler has a green LED logo on top  :D

Another thing you could do, if you can save some more money, is get a 180GB or 250GB SSD, because they actually fill up very quickly. And also you should get something like a 1TB hard drive or maybe 2TB. 500GB is not even close to what I need for me..

If you really want the blue color to "pop out", you can get some Bitfenix Alchemy LED strips. You can find them in different sizes, different colors (including blue), and they're very high quality.

Are you going to be using the stock cooler for the CPU? Those are K series CPUs, so they can be overclocked..

I agree with a lot of what @Mateyyy said, except I'd skip the Ti. It really is over kill if you're playing at 1080p.

I'd go with an Adata SP920 256gb SSD at the very least. You can get a 500GB Samsung for about another $100.

I think 1TB Blue drives are the same price, if not $10 more than the 500GB drives. Definitely worth the extra money.

Read some reviews about the motherboard before buying one, AsRock products can be either quite good, or pretty bad. It's not like Asus where they're all generally good.

If you're on a budget, i5, if you're not on a super tight budget and plan on keeping the system without upgrading for years, I'd go i7.

I'm very short on money so this will all take awhile so i'll be getting the the graphics card last and just use my old graphics card and i don't need to overclock to push the 7770 so i plan to get a watercooler sometime closer to the purchase of the 780 which i probably can't afford till next year anyways.

it would be hard for me to put budget seeing as how it's not even a whole build but I wish to use it for gaming and some video production. nothing to serious though.

Okay...just to be on the safe side, I'll say your max budget is $1,000 USD. Would you think that would be appropriate since you're not wanting anything too serious?
