No, it's not a matter of re-enabling, it simply is gone. I guess I need to reinstall it but I am not sure how.

Aiite for this you'll need to mess with the Windows registry.

What you need:

1- Another computer with the same OS as you, and same arch (32-bit or 64-bit has to match)

2- A USB key, or even a floppy. The file needed is small. You can also transfer the file over the network if you'd like.

On the 2nd computer, go in Services. Find the Windows Audio service and double-click on it. You'll see the 'friendly' name for the service. (Should be AudioSrv).

Then, open regedit.

WARNING: This is the good ol' 'Do this at your own risk' line. I'm not responsible for what happens.

Go in HKEY_Local_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Find the folder (Or as it's called here, 'key') called that friendly name. It should be called AudioSrv.

Right-click on AudioSrv, click on 'Export'. Save somewhere and export it to the other computer.

On the other computer, just double-click on the reg file, and execute it. Reboot, and cross fingers.

Ok try this

Run cmd (admin mode)

Then type this code in

sfc /scannow

This will look for corrupted and missing windows files and replace if needed
