New i7 4790K won't boot on z87

I've just been having the same problem but managed to figure it out.

 

When you did the BIOS update did you run the application in the zip folder or did you just load the .CAP file in the BIOS? Usually I update the BIOS using EZ Flash 2 in the UEFI BIOS but it seems like you need to actually run the application in Windows in order for the new CPUs to work.

no i only updated it in the bios with the EZ flash utility, but i have been running this bios for more then a week now and when i go into ai suite it says that i have version 2004 so. 

But i'm gonna try this and see if it helps thx for the tip there m8 :D

this is correct. it allows the mobo firmware to be updated to accept refresh/devils canyon.

i believe the OP only has half the operation done.

ok, btw. why do you spend so much money on a computer?

How is his build expensive? Asus Z87-C's are cheap, as is pretty much everything else but the 770. Lots of people here have thousands into their X79 builds. Heck, I have way too much into just Z87. xD

Ok the problem was solved with the update utility in windows environment  thank you all for the help :D

Yeah it's pretty much step in model of z87 boards and the components i have do the job that  want it to do so :D

I'm gonna order a 4790k asap for my z97 ROG Max Hero VII. Been trying to update bios but my thumb drive (64gb) supports exFAT where I need FAT32. ugh. Being that I will be doing my first bios update ever, I am a bit perplexed about this anyway... well, it's good to know there is another step needed to get this completed.

Nope, not at all.

yeah on z97 it's supported out of the box, just plug in your cpu and it should run without problems.

I just purcashed my 4790k Ive got a z87 deluxe I flashed the bios to the latest with the ez flash(no CPU ram) will that be enough to let me run the new CPU because I don't have another 1150 CPU to use

To my surprise my G1 sniper z87 board worked right away with i7 4790k. No flashing or updates needed

I had the same problem, you have to go on a random computer. Download the latest BIOS update for your MOBO from the manufacturers website. then get a flashdrive and put the update file on the drive and make the drive fat32. Launch your MOBO into it's bios and go to where it says flash/update. Choose the file on your drive and it'll update.

 

Here's a video to help you. You can use another computer to download the update.

If not you can definitly call up Asus and ask them how to do it. I'm pretty sure they'll glad to help you. And if you don't feel safe doing it, you can ask for a RMA so they can update it.

I bought a Asus Z87-A with a i7-4770 from a recycling centre but it wouldn't boot.  After testing a friends intel i5 4460 and it booted up just fine.

 

1. Updated the BIOS to Version 2103 still won't boot.  

 

2. Replaced the BIOS chip winbond 25054fva10 1314 (BIOS Version 2103) with winbond 25054fva10 1351 (BIOS version 1707)

 

I upgraded the winbond 25054fva10 1351 (BIOS version 2103) and it still booted up.
