Asus Gtx 780 or Gigabyte r9 290

nogomet

Hi guys, sorry for my bad English I m from Europe :D So anyway i have a i5 4670k with seasonic m12 II evo edition 520 W bronze PSU. My question is on the topic title, so what do you think is r9 290 a close to gtx 780? (in gaming) I saw this video

and Luke say that r9 290 is very hot, noise, and need power consumption :( I know in the video that r9 290 is a refrence design but what about gigabyte desing? Is that good? And can my PSU handle r9 290 gigabyte like this one (the link is the Croatian store)... http://www.centro.hr/detalji_proizvoda.8437b5ac547d46b197b9ab5f834ced49.graficka-kartica-gigabyte-radeon-r9-290-4gb-gddr5-hdmi-dvi.aspx

2.651.92 kn is cost in Croatia in the USA value is 475 $

so what do you think? Is it worth to buy gigabyte r9 290 or gtx 780? Tnx guys..

If you're gaming at 1080p, the 780 will serve you better overall. At higher resolutions, the 290 will start pulling ahead.

Anything upto and including 1440p, the 780 will serve you better than the 290 overall. Also, your English is perfectly fine!

Personally,i'd get the 780 and overclock it till it hurtz. I's perfect for 1080p. Anything above that, it'll struggle as newer AAA games will use more vram

Depends on the price you can get the R9 290, since they're getting lower now since the minecoin with R9 fad is...going away.

780 because the lower power consumption as your PSU isn't that big in terms of wattage.

OMG guys so you are saying that gtx 780 is much better than r9 290? But what about FPS benchmark in the Linus video? The r9 is very close to 780 :( in my country gtx 780 is 3.797,99Kn = 680$  but is worth the extra cash? P.s. guys what about my PSU is ok for that card? No problem?

So the GTX 780 is $680 while the R9 290 is $475 in your country? It's a no brainer then. Get the R9 290.

And no, the GTX 780 isn't "much better" than the R9 290, especially if you consider the price. But it is slightly faster in many titles at 1080p resolution. At 1440p resolution and higher, the R9 290 starts to leave the GTX 780 behind. This is the main reason why the big hardware sites like Tom's Hardware stopped recommending the GTX 780 ever since bitcoin mining waned. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107.html

However, I do have doubts about your PSU. It's a good PSU, but it's a bit too close for comfort for both the GTX 780 and R9 290. It will definitely run okay, but only if you don't have too many stuff on your rig.

Rig: Intel Core i7-2600 / Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X / 2 x 8 GB DDR3-1600 / Seagate Hybrid SSHD 2 TB / FSP500-60APN 500W / 3x 20" 1600x900 LED / 51" Samsung F5000 plasma / Acer K330 LED projector
15.6" Clevo W650SJ: Intel Core i7-4810MQ / Geforce GTX 850M / 1 x 8 GB DDR3-1600 / Hitachi 1 TB 7200 rpm
14" Lenovo Y460: Intel Core i5-520M / Mobility Radeon HD 5650 / 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1333 / Hitachi 500 GB 5400 rpm

When it comes to AMD, just don't get a reference cooler and you'll be fine with just about anything.  The r9 290 is so much cheaper it appears.

Get the 290. Gigabyte's Windforce cooler one of the best GPU coolers, and I would definitely recommend it.

Your PSU should be just about fine as long as you don't have a tonne of other stuff that the PSU needs to power.

With that price difference between the 780 and 290, the 290 is an easy pick.

Desktop: Intel Core i7-5820K, Corsair H115i, Asus X99-Deluxe/USB 3.1, G.Skill Ripjaws4 32GB 2800MHz CL16, Zotac RTX 3070, Samsung 950 Pro 512GB in Angelbird Wings PX1, Samsung 850 EVO 1TB, 5*Seagate 12TB, Cooler Master V1200, Phanteks Enthoo Luxe, Windows 10 Pro. I'd replace the WD Green hard drive with a WD Blue since the Green ones spin down too often (to conserve energy), and it has a lower MTBF rate. I also recommend the Seagate Hybrid SSHD too.

Your PSU seems good if you don't add more things to that.

Rig: Intel Core i7-2600 / Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X / 2 x 8 GB DDR3-1600 / Seagate Hybrid SSHD 2 TB / FSP500-60APN 500W / 3x 20" 1600x900 LED / 51" Samsung F5000 plasma / Acer K330 LED projector

We tried pairing the hybrid SSD with an SSD. It works wonders for stuff you leave on the hard drive.  :)
