Internet help and Is my speed okay?

So Basically I have to use wifi because my mom won't let me bring the router/modem thing upstairs and won't let me run a cable through the entire house sooooo yea ( I'm a teenager). We pay for 12 mbps down and 1 mbsp up and almost get that 70% of the time (I get 10-11 down but never 12 and like .60 up). But about the other 30% of the time I get 1-3 mbps and .06 mbsp up???? This is usually at night. I've called. Tried reseting the router. Turning it on and off. But during this "down time" nothing works. If anyone can help me i'm all ears.

It's probably just your isp being scumbags and not caring to fix their service. You can't do much about it other than call them an threaten to get a contract with another company if they don't fix it.

Ah, well... we're paying for 100mbps and aren't getting the promised speeds either. We were 20mbps for a week after we ordered, than 25-26mbps, now we're around 32mbps, we don't know. Maybe they're "taking they're time." Most ISPs are just bad nowadays.

Try changing channels of the router. May be interference

Do you have windstream because thats my exact speeds. No its not fine but unless your ISP cares ( Not Likely ) they aint going to do crap about it. Also it may just be upgrades, if this just happened call and report it to your ISP and ask if its a know problem and what it is. If they give a bull crap answer switch ISP's as soon as you can.

 

 

If they wont do anything ask for a monthly rebate until they fix it.

Oh, Well I know in Missouri they are upgrading their servers. Mine has improved a lot in the past few weeks. I would call and ask them if thats what they are doing.

They said that there was a breach in the fiber causing our connection to be bad. But the guy came out and now it's doing the same thing.

Have you tried stopping the second device and check the internet speed then? If the second device is using 11Mbps you obviously will only get <1Mbps on your machine.

Yeah I think it was just a bull answer. They will give you monthly rebates though of $30 a month so I would just ask about those. Call your local office and not Tech Support

Have you tried stopping the second device and check the internet speed then? If the second device is using 11Mbps you obviously will only get <1Mbps on your machine.

The second device is my sisters iphone and she can't go one second without it.

That is probably what makes your internet connection get so slow.

Usually it is that the bandwidth gets used up by another machine on your network...

Do you have any smart TVs connected to the internet?

 

If not then it might just be the area you live in, someone using bandwidth on the same ISP.
