VGA enough for 1080p 60hz?

Tacitus
Go to solution Solved by Tacitus,

Thanks everyone, got a HDMI cable and it's now fine!

Hey everyone,

I'm currently away from home with my laptop connected to a 60hz 1080p monitor via a VGA cable (only one I have right now) but in an attempt to play Oblivion or watch Game of Thrones there is an extremely noticeable effect where there are lines going across the screen horizontally, which is most noticeable when the background is dark, or moving. It is fine typing this because little is moving and it's white background, but if I look at the monitor from above it there is a significant amount of what looks like static.

I've attempted to update driver, which has not helped.

Is it because of the VGA cable?

If so I'll need to go get a HDMI cable on Monday.

Cheers

Chris

Signal artifacts and corrupted images are somewhat common on older connectors. HDMI should fix it.

VGA is perfectly fine for 1080p 60hz.

Something might be wrong with your cable/connector. Going to hdmi will fix this, but changing to a new VGA cable could fix it too. I doubt it is your GPU's problem.

It probably isn't the GPU, it was working fine connected via HDMI to another monitor two days ago.

try to wiggle and push your cable in the connector, maybe it's not connected right

Then either buy a new VGA cable or a new HDMI cable. HDMI will probably be more expensive though.

Get an HDMI cable or Display Port cable anyways. VGA does not have great color reproduction.

Check for any bent pins on either side of the VGA cable if that's not it grab a cheap very cheap HDMI cable that is thick ,don't spend anymore than say $12 on the cable ,& also if the HDMI post the image to the screen not correctly right click on screen & go into nvidia control panel & find resize then set it to how it works for you i had to do this for my self & everything works fine ...

Best of luck ...
