Foobar2000 (Potentially) Coming to Mobile Platforms

LADIES AND GENTS! THE MOMENT YOU'VE WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR IS (almost) UPON US!!!

FOOBAR2000 IS FINALLY F***ING COMING TO MOBILE PLATFORMS!!!!

I found this article from Android Police last weekend, but it was originally posted in April.

Apparently, the Foobar2000 team originally started a Kickstarter campaign for a mobile version, but then pulled it down because projections showed that the campaign would be about "2/3rd short of its goal" by the time it ended (which, coincidentally, would have been yesterday, June 9th), so the team moved to a self-hosted fundraiser.

post-279-0-97839000-1402378472.png

As of posting this, there are still 29 days left and they are about 1/3 of their minimal goal of $100,000.

The final version of Foobar2000 Mobile will be available on Android, Windows Phone, and iOS, as well as the PC (DUH), and will feature (if they reach their stretch-goal of $300,000) F-ING CLOUD SYNCHRONIZATION ACROSS ALL PLATFORMS!!! As well as probably featuring an easy way to locally sync (through USB/lightning) between Foobar on your desktop and on your phone.

post-279-0-52516600-1402378473.png

On top of that, higher-tier supporters will receive RHA MA750 earphones (the iOS backers will receive the "i" version with in-line microphone).

post-279-0-40901700-1402379231.png

(How about a review? Eh, Linus?)

The donation options include:

  • The $5 "Helper" bracket, which includes a thank you email from the foobar development team and access to private foobar2000 mobile forum & to the developer's blog.
  • The $25 "Follower" bracket, which includes the above perks, plus the final version of mobile foobar2000 on all platforms.
  • The $50 "Supporter" bracket, which includes all the above perks, plus your name as a supporter on foobar2000.com mobile web page.
  • The $80 "Tester" bracket, which includes all the Supporter perks, plus access to the first beta version, depending on whether you picked the Android, iOS, or Windows Phone Tester option.
  • The $195 "Early Bird" bracket, which includes all the Supporter perks, plus access to the first alpha and beta versions of Foobar2000 Mobile, depending on whether you picked the Android, iOS, or Windows Phone Tester option, as well as the RHA MA750 earphones.

Then we have the $400 "Prime Mover", which includes in-app credits; $900 "Founder", which includes "Exclusive Framed Foobar2000 artwork signed by development team."; and finally, the $6,000 "Skin Designer" packaged, which basically is a way to buy yourself onto the dev team.

ANYWAY...

Basically, if you use Foobar2000 and have always wished for seamless integration between it on your desktop and your phone, then this is the opportunity to make it happen!

Even if they don't reach their stretch goal of $300,000, which will include cloud integration/synchronization, at having Foobar on our phones will be an amazing first step!

We will have to see what it costs on the market. I want a linux version already.

My guess would be around $10-$15... Which means that at the "Follower" bracket you're only paying $10-$15 extra to fund the project. :)

I really dislike Foobar for the desktop, maybe it will be better on mobile. Apollo is terribly glitchy for me

I hope it isn't that much. I would only spend ~$5 at most. What I really want is a linux version. I would pay $15 for that.

100,000 dollars to port Foobar2000 to Android and iOS? They expect users to pay ~20 dollars for a music player on their phones?

Are they high or something?

Eh, the Google Play Music app on my phone is a perfectly good mobile player and I have no issue managing music myself... And it's free.

Well, according to the fundraiser page, that money it going to be used for full salaries for developers to not only create but also maintain both the mobile apps (on all platforms) and a completely redesigned version of the desktop app that will be able to sync easily with the mobile versions.

$100,000?!?! Honestly, is it really that expensive to make a IOS and Android app? Hopefully it will be free when it's actually released. Apollo is very glitchy and I don't want to spend a couple dollars for power amp.

I hope this is gonna be cheap once the official app is out. I really love foobar.

Well... It seems like we  won't be getting UBERFoobar and a mobile version as there are less than three weeks left until the fundraiser ends and they're still only about 1/3 of the way there...  :(
