Two Cores failing in Prime95 at stock FX-8150 (n00b)

I am very new to computers I only know products not software or bios.

In prime95 when I start up a test two cores fail within 10 min on my FX-8150 at stock I don't have prime95 installed anymore

MB: Gigabyte 970A-D3

CPU: FX-8150

RAM: 2x ADATA 4gb @1333mhz

GPU: XFX 7970 Ghz Edition (also failed before I got a better graphics card on a 6770)

PSU: XFX Black Edition 1250W

OS: W7 Home Premium

Any ideas? Should I be concerned?

Will do. How long does the process take at maximum (10 runs)?

Should I try loading the default in my BIOS? and if so should I load "Fail-Safe Default" or Optimized Default"?

You haven't touched anything in the BIOS relating to clock speeds / multiplier or voltage?

Is it a new cpu, it might be a production error if you didn't mess with the BIOS.

I have touched the CPU Overdrive in AMD Control Catalyst but I changed everything back to default there. AS far as BIOS I have opened it up to see what it looked like but I'm fairly sure I didn't touch anything. Like I asked before should I just load defaults and see if that changes anything or could that potentially balls things up?

Did it pop up a instability warning or something?

do it. it wont hurt it.

It could possibly be your memory causing the failures, try each stick of RAM individually and see if you get any problems

Ok I will try that thanks!

It did pop up a warning that it had failed and told me to change things such as voltage and clock speeds down which should be at stock. I am trying each stick of RAM separately like Christopher below recommended

Run Memtest86+ for each stick individually. You will need to download the ISO and create a bootable USB drive, then boot from that instead of windows :)

WAIT!

this is a known issue with the fx line from AMD. they are not really compatible with prime95. i had this problem for a really long time and it annoyed me becauses i couldn't overclock.

I asked it on a forum, and the expirienced users said that prime95 was the problem. quite weird, but true.

Try a diffrent stability program, like LinX.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect. But actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff."

Dont understimate my skillsz, you might look foolish.

it doesn't vary. Prime95 allways has a standard time for a "pass". you can set the time manually, on stock it is allways 15 mins.

the amount of calculations done in that time, does vary.

Intel Burn Test does not base it on time, it has a set amount of runs (10) it has to do to conclude if it has pass or fail.

I use a program called y-cruncher to test stability on my 8120:

Good luck

Well I have no idea what happened but I tested each stick of RAM separately on the intel burn test and they both passed. Thinking I had a similar Linus RAM problem where all sticks would fail in dual or quad BUT that is not the case as my system is running flawlessly an has been burning for over 8 hours now

I tested both sticks RAM separately and both passed. i put them in together again and for some reason I have not had an error in over 8 hours of burning in intel burn test. Not sure what the original problem was but either it is sorted out now or being a jerk and hiding itself

It's best that you test your memory using Memtest86+.
