ATX 8-pin Power Adapters?

I just upgraded my motherboard to an Asrock Extreme4 z77 which requires an 8pin CPU power connector however my PSU only has a 4pin connector. This runs fine so far but i'd imagine for any OCing with very high usage i'd need an 8pin. Would an adapter do the trick(molex to 8pin, molex to 4pin or 4pin to 8pin?) or should i just wait until i can get a new PSU?

A adapter would do, as long as the power supply has enough wattage and is a reliable one then it should be fine.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Do you think there would be any difference between the adapter options or would a 4pin to 8pin deliver increased power over a 4pin just fine?

Depending on what CPU you are running, without an 8pin it may actually be down clocking when running. Higher end Intel CPU's do need the extra voltage supplied... And honestly, this is your CPU and mobo here. Go out and buy a decent PSU with 8Pin connector. They are actually not to expensive, especially if you look for something on sale, depending on what your total wattage requirements are...

3570k @ 3.4ghz and above for a short time.

The PSU isn't bad, it's just from an old build so if i can stick with it rather than replace it just for one connector then i would rather do so. From what i can see there hasn't been any down clocking, it even allowed for a bit of overclocking headroom on the 4pin but i didn't want to push it without an 8pin connector.

I'm happy to go out and get a new PSU but if there's really no need to other than for the connector to be native to the PSU then i could use the money for a better cooler.

i would just get a new psu if yours now doesn't have a 8 pin just invest in a good one. 7 year warranties are nice :)
