The GPU Overclocking Database

Cobalt

I have a question - I am relatively unfamiliar with building my own Gaming-PC, but I'm going to build an own new Gaming PC at the end of the year.

How much does stock-overclocked GPUs effect lifetime of the GPU?

What are your experiences related to this topic?

I'd like to see the GPU working for at least 3-4 years and maybe upgrade the system with a second card.

Thanks!!

It should barely effect it at all if you adjust the fan speed with the overclock.

My GTX670 is still running perfectly after 2 years and I overclocked it from day 1.

Depending on how high you can get your OC it can give you huge boosts I get 9-10 extra fps from it.

Pushing the Limits on the Asus Z97-K with the BCLK @ 106.6Mhz x Multiplier locked constant at 39x Turbo (No speedstep) = the i5 4690 @ 4.167Ghz & the Gigabyte R9 290 is OC'd to 1175Mhz/1565Mhz (From my old max attempt of 1100/1333)

(CPU barely gets to 70*c, hovering usually around 58-64*c under load, GPU Core is up to 81*c, maybe pushes to 85*c after some time, Vrm1 gets to 90-96*c the Max I've seen over time.

I also aimed a fan underneath my GPU still whisper quiet @ 1650rpm's which helped a fair bit with overall airflow in the case.

(Currently uploading video's of Avermedia LGP direct HDMI capture uploading of my OC'd runs Heaven/Valley/3D11/FS)

Firestrike - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BRcGBpqiFI

10092 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2904253 - Firestrike had a small performance hit due to the HDD getting intermittently saved to using Avermedia behind Firestrike

Final Firestrike Score of 10170 @- http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2903520

So after picking up the gigabyte g1 gaming 970 I got curious and started overclocking. I can get +180 on the core for a 1562 total boost on the core and +500 for a whopping 4000mhz on the memory. I can't go a single digit over that or it fails the valley benchmark. It will black out the screen for a few seconds, flash the screen then crash the driver and then resume valley at stock speeds. So my question is, is that the limit to the card I got? I know that is a formidable overclock and it performs satisfactory at the moment but I would like to know if I can squeeze out more of this card before I'm resorted to buying a second one for sli.

+180 on the G1 core should net you way more than the 1562MHz you are getting, since +150 gets me the same, and both our GPUs are the same.  What I usually do when OC is back down 2 stops before the crash.  If I crash at +160, I setp back to +140 and it's a guaranteed stable environment.  +150 is rock solid in benchmarks, but in games I have seen it freeze games before without the driver actually crashing.  Same goes for CPU OC, go 2 steps back for 100% stability.

How often does the Database get updated?

Submitted a GTX 980 OC the other day - still not been updated though :/

Everyone have a cool signature. I don't, so I thought I would write something.

- Cool right?

Hey guys, didn't want to start a new thread so here goes.  Does anyone know how to unlock the voltage in MSI afterburner build 4.0.0 (September 2014) past 1.3 volts for a Radeon HD 7970?  (reference Sapphire model)

I should add that I've been able to pump it up 300Mhz from 925 to 1225 100% rock stable at 1.3Volts.  I feel like this thing could go about 100-150mhz higher if I can just somehow supply it with more juice... thanks!

With my Gigabyte 970 G1 I can consistently pass Valley without fail at +170mhz, usually pass 3Dmark Firestrike at +150mhz (100% solid at 140mhz), and then for actually playing games like Shadow of Mordor, it seems to crash until it's down to around +125mhz.
Valley really disappointed me because I thought my card was amazing, then actually doing other benchmarks and playing games it seems like I have an underperformer.
That or the card was amazing and I somehow damaged it overclocking and now it's worse than average, it's my first time overclocking, hell it's my first time owning a graphics card or a gaming PC.

In 15 hours of playing Shadow of Mordor it artifacted once for a split second (I almost missed it), hopefully not a bad sign for the future...
Temps seem good, usually hitting mid 60's at the highest, definitely not my limiting factor.

Despite all that, lowering my OC from +170mhz to +125mhz only lowers my Valley score from 2804 to 2774 on the Extreme HD preset, losing a mere 1fps in average FPS. In 3Dmark Firestrike, I can achieve a score of 10957, which puts me in about the top 10% of results with the same CPU and GPU, outperforming many other G1's with higher OC's like +150mhz.
So I don't know if I should be happy or confused, currently I'm both.

Nvidia doesn't give a toss about Unigine benchmarks, that's why you are seeing minimal improvements.  Not optimized on the driver side for it.  On 3D Mark though, I am around 13.5k GPU score which you seem to be getting too.  For stable in games, +130-140 seems to be the sweet spot for me, while on Benchmarks I can go as high as +150 and nothing crashes.

My combined score is %25 higher than yours and I only got a 280X. You scored lower with an overclocked 290. Which is pretty weird.

The 8350 might hold back my Firestrike score but it's not really notable in games I've played so far. I might be going to Intel if Amd has nothing to offer in the next year
