Looking for new gaming monitor 1080p

Skreedles

Hey guys I've been using the same monitor for about 5 or more years now and I think since I jusut got a new PC it;s time for an upgrade.

So I'm looking for a good 1080p monitor for around $200 Lower would be better, you may be able to convince me to go higher.

I will be gaming on the monitor mainly and I was thinking of a 2ms response time monitor.

Suggestions would be nice.

Also, how is BenQ as a brand?

BenQ is a great brand. Response time does not really matter in a gaming monitor. However I would recommend you up your budget to accommodate a 144hz monitor if you are playing fps. High refresh rate just plain looks good and it gives a tangible advantage in a game. They cost about $100 more than your budget but you probably will not care to upgrade anytime soon(if you buy good monitors you don't have to upgrade as often).

But if you are not fps gaming then I am sure about 9000 other members on this forum will give you plenty of good IPS recommendations. IPS screens have good colors but are pretty much limited to 60 and 75hz refresh rate.

ok i will get yelled at here but for gaming, specifically fps, do not get ips, it is slow and cant be refreshed enough, at 200$ if you are playing fps i suggest this http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-gl2460hm and in honesty i dont suggest anything else unless you need ips

I can understand what you are saying but ips is still great for gaming, besides what the point i getting a 2ms response time monitor when the average person wont even notice a difference between that an 5-8. Personally i would rather have looks over almost unnoticeable performance. Still thought i'm not yelling at you, just sharing my opinion. Also my recommendation would be this monitor, it's great for the price:

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

... I'm pretty sure you won't be able to notice the difference at all. If the difference was say 2ms vs. 34ms then I'd say the difference would be noticeable.

I would recommend an IPS panel - once you go IPS it's really hard to go back to anything else. Check out the Dell U2414h (finding a deal on a refurbished one can get it down the to $200 mark)

Have you looked into the viewsonic VX2453MH-LED? It's in full HD 1920x1080p, only $200, and it's just a great monitor. If you want more information I've included some below. Good luck!
