I use GIMP 2.8.4. My needs are light weight. I used it to make my profile picture.

Sony Vegas was discontinued, it was buggy as a sewer, i use the CS6 suite.

It most certainly was not discontinued, although it was buggy as hell.

I use Gimp, what's annoying about it is that most people use Photoshop so the best tutorials online are for Photoshop but I am no pro so I am still with Gimp.

Do you guy mean editing as in video or photo?

If photo I use Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4

If video I use Final Cut or Sony Vegas depending on my OS at the time.

Btw for those of you who need a better free alternative for photo editing I recommend CS2: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/

Photos and Image editing - Photoshop CS3 (I bought it off amazon 2nd hand, hadn't been activated so was a bargain)

Video Editing - Sony Vegas 11 (preferred the render times vs Adobe, ideally I'd use Avid but I can't afford it so.......)

Audio Editing - Sound Forge 9 (so easy to use and so awesome)

Audio recording - Cubase 4 (just cos I'm used to it from the old Atari ST days, tend to record using Cubase and master/edit using Sound Forge, been a fan of that since the Sonic Foundry days)

Miscellaneous - Format Factory (nice for quickly compressing stuff when you can be bother messing with codec settings in your video editor of choice)

(taken courses in 3Ds Max Design, Revit, and Autocad so can do that stuff too)

Adobe CS6 suite. I learned how to properly use photoshop in a photo class at school, and I have continued to use it.

Lightroom 4 most of the time, very convenient and time saving. I would use Photoshop CS6 or Illustrator CS6 afterwards if there are some edits that I want to do on the image that I can't do on Lightroom, or when I am going to use the photo for a specific design I am making, which usually involve both photoshop and Illustrator. I don't do a lot of videos, I just don't feel like learning how to make good videos :P hehe ( I'm lazy. I know that )

Camtasia Studio 7. Laggy, but it works.

Wish I had premiere or after effects :/

UPDATE: Just got Premiere and After Effects! Now if I could only figure out how to use them....

http://www.videocopilot.net/basic/

That's all the basic stuff, then just go on YouTube and look up specific stuff if you need to. :)

The biggest question in here probably is how much all these licenses would add up in total cost if someone would actually pay for them :D

I paid for mine... :/ Creative Cloud...
