5GB ddr2 single chanell vs 4GB ddr2 dual chanell

Hi,

I have 4 modules of 1GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM in dual chanell and I have experienced full memory usage in some situations (while playing Battlefield 3).

Would changing a single module (I can get a single module of 2GB DDR2 800 MHz 4free) help? That would be switching from 4x1GB to 1x2GB+3x1GB.

Battlefield 3 is a 32-bit application that can use up to 4GB of RAM on a 64-bit system + Origin & Browser & Windows & other background applications need to work in the background.

Going for DDR3 or more ddr2 2GB modules is not an option at this time. Thank you for your help.

I would stick with your dual channel for sure. It will run your appps and games much more efficiently

Just letting you know; boards designed for DDR2 won't support DDR3..

Very true about your last comment however 4 gigs is very sufficient for most users, even gaming. If your running out of memory I'd bet big bucks its from programs and services running in the background that don't need to be.

Actually I can pass 4GB of RAM usage playing SC2, which is not the most intense game out there. Nothing but Skype running in the background, and as far as services go trust me, I keep my computer very, very streamlined.
