"hate" against 1440p

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

To give you an idea, an 1080p 21.5" monitor is roughly the same size in pixels of a 27" 1440p monitor.   If the pixel size is identical , you have approx. the same number of pixels per cm2, therefore, the image resolution that both present is similar, except if the larger monitor has features that allow for a higher quality image, of course , but that has nothing to do with the resolution .

A good  27" 1440p monitor does have better definition than a 1080p 24 " , but this difference is similar to the difference between a ~ 22 " vs 24 " monitor

even the GTX 780ti is not able to present a satisfactory rate of frames in the most demanding today's games on a 1440p monitor ...  and that already lets guess what is coming for the next 2 or 3 years! (even worse)

WHAT?

24" - 1920*1280 = 91.97

27" - 2560*1440 = 108.79

and you said a 21.5" monitor... That means having a smaller monitor, which you have to sit closer too, thus making the pixels bigger. Unless you like looking at tiny screens

Also that second part isnt true. My single 780ti plays Battlefield 4 at 1440p Ultra, 4x MSAA, Post AA High, HBAO On, 110% Res upscaling, 60+ FPS minimum, same for Crysis 3 (but with a few settings tweaked and less AA)

Every game is currently playable at 1440p Ultra 60FPS with a 780ti

I give up ><

At a forum that I use to go, I received a huge testament just because I recommended a 27" 1440p monitor to a guy that will make 780ti SLI.

He is always attacking 1440p and higher resolutions than 1080p, and saying the same things. So, what do you guys think of this? I will quote (I used google translator, sorry for the bad english :S) :

"  You have 2 monitors, one 1440p 50 " and 22" 1080p . You think you have a better definition on the 50" monitor only because it has more pixels ? ... An even more extreme example ? A 1440p monitor that occupies a whole wall , 4m by 2.5m ... you still think you'll have better quality / definition Photo ?

Resolution is different from definition or image quality, The 1440p as recommended by someone , may not actually have better quality / definition than a 1080p one , may simply have a larger screen with a higher number of pixels to render.

You just have a better definition 1440p monitor when the number of pixels per cm2 is higher than on a 1080p display, or if the pixel size is smaller.

Therefore , saying that it is better to play with medium details at 1440p than everything maxed out at 1080p,  overcomes the barrier of reasonable. I believe you have never done the test , otherwise you would say no such thing ...

A good  27" 1440p monitor does have better definition than a 1080p 24 " , but this difference is similar to the difference between a ~ 22 " vs 24 " monitor . If they are both equal , have the same characteristics , the smaller monitor is slightly better because pixels are smaller, therefore, larger number of pixels per cm2 . Like 27" has an equivalent definition of the 22" one , the 30" is similar to a 2560x1600p 24 ~ 25" 1080p .

If running 2560x1440 pixels on a 24" monitor, that would result in a much more defined image, but still a game at medium would always look worse than other in Very- high at 1080p ... I dont have the least doubt .

Now , with less than 300 € purchase yourself a 120 or 144Hz monitor, these yes, apparently they are ideal for games and there are considerable differences in the fluidity of play, which is what the picky gamer want . For 200~250 € you already buy great 23" 24" monitors with IPS panel, and I believe this are the best ones for being one meter away from the nose.  Not only will you save a lot of money but also you will have the best graphic performance for longer ... This resolution is very heavy even for a GTX 780ti .

Make no mistake , even the GTX 780ti is not able to present a satisfactory rate of frames in the most demanding today's games on a 1440p monitor ...  and that already lets guess what is coming for the next 2 or 3 years! (even worse)

for 200~250 € you already buy great 23" 24" monitors with IPS panel, and I believe this are the best for being one meter away from the nose.

As for the nose, this is it: most of us spend most of the time within 1 meter away from the monitor, and for this distance, a 24 or 25" monitor is ideal.

Ultra HD monitors ... not worth talking about them as there is no hardware for them.  "

lol im assuming this is a gamer. there so closed minded.  i see alot of them run card setups similar to this. turn the resolutions ALL the way down and settings as low as they can go to get higher FPS. On simple games like left for dead two. which will run off of piss and still give you a min of 60fps. I say to them well if your MIN FPS is higher then your max refresh rate with max res and max settings then lowering the settings is doing nothing but making your game look like ass!

People can debate this all day long if they choose to they can argue about how pointless the bump in res is or how amazing the improvement is. I stand divided. I to be rather honest do see the improvement in quality, What I do notice and like is the increase in size of screen improvement and larger real estate that provides. Would I buy another 1440 resolution monitor? No. I bought the one I have now as an experiment and I slightly led to believe it was superbly better then 1080p. Now I'm not so disappointed with my purchase after 5 months as I enjoy the fantastic experiences my monitor gives me, but it should be said a 1080p monitor could deliver similar experiences. I would believe its very hard to find someone who hates the experience a good 1440p monitor provides. At this point in time I would wait for 4K if I had the money to build a rig to support it. A single 780 ti can comfortably power 2560x1440 resolutions in demanding games. If you don't like 50fps turn down anti aliasing a bit.

I typed this on my 16:10 monitor, not as good as typing on my pb278q.

You do know that Alienware is Dell, right? So you're still using a Dell monitor, it may not be as good as the one your brother has, but it's still a Dell.

@davidsd1990, I know it's not your fault mate. That guy needs to learn to get straight to his points without rambling on and on. Nobody likes a rambler ;). I was reading through that whole post of what that guy said to you and after a short while it just starting sounding like "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah". By the end my brain had turned that whole ramble into mush and I didn't really get the points that guy was trying to make. It really is hard to follow such a zzzz post. Maybe tell that guy to rewrite that with his points clearly made next time. ;)
