Speedtest says my ping is 1 ms

Speedtest says my ping is 1 ms? I believe this is'nt possible, right?

Is Speedtest doing something wrong, or is really so low? The server was about 50 kilometres away..

50km is extremely close, most people are nowhere near the servers

All that means is that you are very close to the speed testing server.

Its likely a bug/error in the speedtest.net site. Those sites arent very accurate to begin with.

The signal would travel at around 70% of the speed of light over copper, and the same through glass fibre, so in 1ms it could travle 209854.7206 meters. But once you factor in processing times at routers and switches, and retransmissions of lost packets or signals that have been destroyed in the copper or fibre you will realise how impossible 1ms is over 50 KM.

I live about 5km away from the server and I think the 0 could be just a rounded down <=0.49ms.

It is possible, I get 0.9ms to my speedtest.net server, the application rounds it off but to the lower amount (floor).

Same here  :)

Older post, I know. I just went through the same thing. Was getting 1ms ping to a server about 25 miles away.

Today, I decided to check out my power and snr in my modem since I've had an orange upstream light since beginning with this isp. My downstream pwr was +12, which according to what I've read is too high. Everything else was fine. I added a splitter, which dropped my pwr down to +7.5-ish. Now my ping reads a more believable 27ms in speedtest to the same server. Still have a orange upstream light though. Anyways, just figured I'd give some input.

You should probably edit your post, your ip address in it :/ Some people here know what to do with that, so id suggest editing it out

It is definitely possible. They are so close that there are only a few hops needed.

Also there are no retransmissions of ICMP
