Watercool MO RA3 420

Just bid on and won a new Watercool MO RA3 420 together with a fan enclosure and pedestal feet. This sucker is a monster. I had a XSPC RX 360 mounted internally in my CM HAF932 Adv and a EX 360 mounted externally to the rear. I always wanted a MO RA3 and when a new one appeared on E-Bay I bid and the bid was accepted. To say it's a beast is an understatement. I disconnected my external EX 360 and have the RX 360 connected to the MO RA3 420. I'm using 9 XSPC 140mm 1350rpm fans. The fans are connected to three 3 way splitters and ultimately to channels 4-6 of my NZXT 6 channel fan controller. Channels 1-3 control the 3 120mm fans on the RX 360.

I enclose 3 photos. Overall view of my case and the MO RA3 to the right. Closeup of the MO RA3 front and rear( with the fans)

I have a MO RA3 360.

Tbh, don't even bother mounting 9 fans.

I mounted 3 and at their lowest RPM they can cool a 7970 @ 1125MHz core 1800MHz mem + 3570k @ 4.6GHz at load (mining). You can just switch off 6 of the fans.

Edit: You can take off the blue stickers btw.

d33g33, Thank you. Ghost, thanks for the tip. I read in one of the forums that a decent fan controller and splitters really help with a MO RA3.

Obviously being the 420 model it's big, but I have the room. I bought the 9 XSPC 140 mm fans and they mounted well. I checked and hooked a row of 3 fans into a three to one splitter and then into a 3 foot long cable extender which then hooks into a channel of my fan controller. I can turn the fans down to the lowest speed ( @ 40 % of the rated speed - 1350 rpm x .4 or @ 540 rpms. It's almost silent. I use the same fan controller to control the 3 120mm Corsair SP1 HP fans on my RX 360.

From what I read, "some" fans are needed even with the MO RA3 so my arrangement allows slow fans but avoids the passive radiator.

I'll take the blue stickers off! Thanks for the tip!

Ghost, came home for lunch and took the protective wrap off of the side and fan brackets. Feel foolish that I missed that! Picture to follow!

It was cheaper to hook the MO Ra3 to the HAF 932 than to buy a Corsair 900D and then add more rads.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just switched out the Single D5 res for the XSPC Twin D5 Bay res with 2 Swiftech 655s. What flow rate!
