Help! My external hard drive is not working anymore!

solosdk

Ok so yesterday my Western Digital Elements SE USB 3.0 500GB external hard drive went dead yesterday,

It is recognised in Windows, but won't show up in my computer.

It shows in Disk Management although capacity is stated as 0MB

It doesn't spin up or vibrate like normal, just a white flashing light on the front (it doesn't flash like this unless in use)

HELP! Is my precious data gone forever?!!

I need to recover it at least because I have important pictures on there.

Is there a fix to this like the freezer method (this didn't work for me btw)?

Thanks

Are you sure all the coords are plugged in (all the way?) because on my elements 2TB, since i move it around abit, sometimes the USB 2.0 cable isn't plugged in all the way.

My build: i5 3570k @ Stock // Arctic Freezer i30 CPU Cooler // 7970 3GB @ 1000MHz Core 1500Mhz Memory // 8GB RAM @ 1333MHz // WD Caviar Black 1TB // WD Caviar Blue 1TB // Corsair 300R

try it in a usb2 port iv had problems where the usb 3 controller has dun something wired and died on the extremal drive but the usb2 still worked.

if you can get to the hdd inside the drive it the drive will be sata

it could also be the head locking mechanism that engages when a drive is droped

Hi thats the thing, its a sata hdd, but the SATA to USB interface is not removable and is one circuit board!

And yes I use it on usb 2 port normally.

Any other suggestions? And thanks for the responses

I had an old ide-usb drive die on me before. I replaced the external enclosure with a new one from the Egg and haven't had a problem since!
