Doing it right: Bitfenix Prodigy

red, black and white colour scheme definitely looks awesome, pity you didn't realise earlier about the non-reference PCB, could have saved you some money too...

How so? The universal block was about £30 cheaper than a full cover block (I ended up ordering one before I realised it wouldn't fit) and the XFX was the cheapest 7950 by a little, the fans and VRM heatsinks only cost me about £15.

You're right I didn't consider the difference in the price between full cover and universal but reference is usually cheaper and since you were going to remove the cooler anyway, it would have made no difference.

It looks pretty cool. I am quite fond of Prodigy builds.

You know I've never actually seen a reference 7950, especially not for sale, I just had to Google it to see what they look like. I've managed to find one and it's the cheapest on that site by about a fiver but still more than what I paid for mine.

That's a really interessant configuration!

Thank you for sharing it!

Do you have any clearer photo on the HD7950 please? I'm interested of how you cool memory chip located below tubing.

Didn't realise this thread got transferred over (doesn't show up in my post history), just found it again via Google reverse image search.

Figured I may as well share this photo of the Prodigy build in its last incarnation, ended up replacing the 7950 with a 290 (reference this time so I could use a full cover block) and replaced the pump with a Phobya DC12-220 and CPU block with a Heatkiller after the H220 died (later disassembly shows that the coloured coolant had clogged it with sludge, probably still works now I've cleaned it).

For anyone interested I now have a new build (can be found here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/262688-bargain-dual-socket-workstation/ ). Maybe one day I'll build the Prodigy back up, just needs some RAM, drives, and a GPU (got a 6870, but it deserves something better than that).
