Monitor bezels

someone

So why do almost all  LED and especially OLED monitors have bezels.Even if they are tiny it makes no sense to me why they have to exist.  (not talking about IPS displays)

Protection around the edge of the display so it doesn't get knocked and damage the display.

A bezel is used, so that you can hold and move the LCD screen without putting finger prints all over the place.

Also, as the panel is made of glass, it's to protect it. Also it give you room for buttons, to control the monitor settings.

But also it's cost. Cost a lot. People are not willing to pay for such feature.

"Bezel-less" LCD monitors do exists:

However, they are used for commercial purposes only.

If you are lucky enough to have a Microsoft Store near by, you can see the monitors in action:

It's all about the cost. The cost will then be reflected in the price and a majority of customers don't like having the price increased. The way they see it, customers that want bezel-less displays are a niche group. So it's not worth it for them.

I'm pretty sure some hardcore Eyefinity users actually remove the casing from their monitors and mount them on multi-monitor stands side by side with no bezels, obviously you still get a tiny line where the screens change over but its barely noticeable, wouldn't recommend doing that one though, can damage the monitor quite badly and some screens (such as Dell Ultrasharp displays) do have tech behind the bezels for things like the USB hub and so on.

At the end of the day each screen is different, and while Bezels exist primaraly for screen security/protection reasons a lot of monitors use the extra space to house technology.
