Why this exists

The previous home was incredibly horrible to use. There were many times that I had to look something up within that thread and it was almost impossible due to how horrifically long it has gotten. We needed a new home.

 

OH NO! An admin did something to make his life easier!?!?! Yup. That happened. And I'd like to think I made the lives of all the people in the org easier when I did it. Is this a permanent home? No. The idea is that we will eventually be housed on our own thing at startcitizen.linustechtips.com(or some other solution) so that we can exist outside this forum as to, very apparently, not annoy people... unfortunately this is far from ready and we needed somewhere to sit for now - it would be nice to have some sort of member verification so that we can talk about battle plans and such without fear of others seeing them. That being said I have a few other solutions in the works and whatever makes the most sense will eventually happen.

 

OMG DOOD THERE ISN'T A MINECRAFT/Battle duty call of field aim down sight simulator 2014 SUB FORUM!?! Nope. While I do play literally every game that has been mentioned in this game in my spare time we don't have an official community for them. There was a community started for Star Citizen that was unofficial... it then grew to an insane size and Linus and I joined it... then it ballooned even more and I decided to take over due to the fact that no matter how unofficial it may be it is still a representation of our community and I wanted to make sure we looked damn fine.

 

FAQ

- Is this solution permanent? No.

- Is this solution even that good? No.

- Will this solution be replaced soon? Hopefully.

- Will posts I write here be brought over to the new solution? Most likely... but if its important make a copy.

- Will complaining endlessly and creating half of the threads in this forum about why this forum shouldn't exist make it go away? No. It will simply cause me to use more of my limited time creating posts like this instead of creating the replacement.

- Shouldn't this be a subforum? I don't like subforums.

By the way, as much as I may have criticized this subforum before, I think it's a needed and worthwhile section of the forums. And damn, I want into the Alpha. Why didn't I purchase sooner! D:

How do you plan on doing that? Last I was told there is no way to exclude a specific forum from the feed unless you abuse the current contributor model and make that forum a 0$ buy in.

 

You can probably add Star Citizen at the top bar next to classifieds  and have that link redirect to buying the free SC "contributor" status to make that forum available and visible while non-intrusive to non-participants. Amending the forum rules (near the top) temporarily to include that to make it easier to find for newly registered users would help as well. 

 

If you guys opt into doing that, we can probably do that for other subforums in the future that would otherwise be arguably not pertinent, but acceptable due to an opt in nature. 

 

If you so choose to do that, I don't think you have to do that much more since the problem will take care of itself since that division would be effectively isolated.

I don't mind a SC subforum at all. My only concern was what I quoted from you as I'm sure the main feed will have a lot of SC topics in it. I, like many others, rely on the main feed most of the time instead of going into each subforum and viewing threads. Thanks for clarifying though.

 

Anyway, I haven't seen you playing Titanfall in a while. You're probably just extremely busy?

I suggested having a free subscription button so the sc tread is hidden from all other content. much like I get with my silver subscription. however, I realized this also prohibits visitors from viewing this content.

You can still play in the Alpha, just need to but the pass to gain access to it. You'll still need a ship though.

Agreed we wont be creating thaaat many new topics. Yet! I believe you can do a password protected sub forums with IP board (its been a while since I last used it but maybe) the problem being keeping the password secure, all that might be best to look into with the introduction of the super secret not so secret branch off forum as permission based limiting is much better,but a mission on a forum this size I would imagine.

That would be for instance if you have a multi seat ship or a ship that is not in the DFM currently, you would be loaned a ship with the similar value. so that you are not sitting at the sidelines just because you only happen to have bought a Freelancer, Cutlass or Connie for instance.

Lol no no. You'll still need a ship along with the pass(if your package doesn't have alpha access) to play in the DFM. If your ship isn't in the DFM Version 1, you'll then get a loaner ship.
