I'm very sorry to tell you that AMD GPUs are not supported in Blender Cycles yet. There are apparently limitations with OpenCL and AMD's drivers, so only Nvidia cards with CUDA are supported. PhysX is not necessary, but CUDA is.

In my Blender preferences I'm unable to choose my XFX HD7970 3GB DD as redering processor.

 

Any ideas?

 

Is a PhsyX-GPU required?

 

OS: Windows 8 64bit

Blender: 2.66
