Well, the first three Death Angel albums are widely considered some of the best to come out of the Bay Area. 

Personally, I always prefered Act III to The Ultra-Violence. 

 

But I was always more into Dark Angel than Death Angel:

In the battle of Angels these guys just come out on top.

It was and still is. To my knowledge he's still touring and recording with them.

Gene Hoglan was also on Death's Individual Thought Patterns, which is another favorite album of mine.

Say what you will about Jim Morrison but he was literally a beat poet first and pretty-boy rock-star (pressed into service) second...that's not the easiest combination and I think that comes through in their output, but he did think of himself as a showman and thought people needed a show and needed to be entertained, having travelled so far and haiving paid so much money to be there...yes...a lot of it was artifice but it was sincere; in that respect I'll take Morrison over Lennon every time.
