Facebook To Buy Oculus Rift For $2 Billion

Gunzkewl

Facebook has never really been known to just let companies develop independantly, and they paid that much money for a reason: integration. I've never used WhatsApp, nor do I know the story on what happened to it, but I doubt the Occulus Rift will be the same as it would've if it were developed independantly. The two main things I fear: tons of "farmville" type games for the Occulus Rift flooding our news feed, and the lack of privacy they're known so well for. We just have to wait I guess.

I can't believe people are taking back their support for Oculus because of this, it's incredibly childish.

Do note that the rift is being developed for pc gaming, higher end gaming pc's I might add.

Facebook would not dare fuck with what oculus created as a gaming platform, but they are interested in what VR could do for telepresence, communication, and social interaction.

I think this has fucked oculus and now opened up the court for someone new.

I cant see why there is a need to do this as i wouldnt think oculus is short on cash?

Its all about those volumetric clouds

I can't imagine how pissed those people who backed them on their kickstarter must be feeling.  To see them sell out like that must felt like being kicked in the balls.

What's next? Facebook buying Tesla Motors? :(

Never Elon is already pretty rich and he'd never risk his vision for pushing for techs future.

Can we ever have anything nice without an evil company buying it out?
