Build 01 - The Life of a Prodigy

Jaybird

after letting it dry for a few hours, I reassembled everything once more to a near flawless system with liquid cooling. During the process of modding, I lost just enough liquid to make it sounds like I have a a little fountain or maybe a fish tank running. not to bed for a first time experience. going out to buy distilled water tomorrow so I can get rid of the running water sound. well thats enough excitment for today. ill post some temps later.

Thanks! You know, people always tell me I do things the hard way. I just tell them, "nobody learns the easy way until they do it the hard way."

That's a great quote I just thought of. Copyrighted by me but feel free to use in its unmodified form.

Built my Prodigy in January 2013. This is my first ever PC build. I've been a long time Mac user for about 6 years now. <--- wow just realized that. I still use my Macbook pro 15" for college. Well I needed more power; so i built a PC.  I did not like where the power button was located so i moved it to the front. The metal that the PCB is attached to fits perfectly snug in the recessed portion of the plastic cover for the bay. I cut the metal to length stuck it in and said, "IT FITS LIKE A GLOVE!" I will probably order a another front panel or plastic piece so I can have the holes machined or drilled more properly. Overall I think its an ideal location.

parts:

- White Prodigy

- P8z77-I Deluxe

- 3770K (not yet OC)

- stock intel cooler

- MSI GTX 670 TF (not yet OC)

- (2) 4GB Corsair Vengence

- Corsair AX 750 gold

- (1) 230mm spectre pro fan

- (1) 120mm stock Bitfenix fan

- (2) Cougar... pwm fans

- 128GB  Samsung SSD 830

- 1 TB WD 3.5"

- 320gb Fujitsu (hackintosh)

- 23.6" Samsung SyncMaster S24B30BL

That desk is elegant! :o

It was a pretty good desk. That apartment came "furnished" so it had this desk, platform bed with slots for baskets underneath, and a couch that was not ideally comfortable. +1 for wood, but still rate the quality a 6 for being a bit too shallow and not wide enough for three monitors or dual monitors and my rig sitting where it is. I will say it was conveniently located in front of the bathroom door. no longer did i miss out on my programs. I am in the process of moving so ill post pics of my next setup.

there are somethings that just feel better on a mac but my macbook pro just doesnt have the power.

I might have to upgrade to the ProdigyM. I soon found out that a soundcard might be a worth investment.

Finally moved to my new apartment and was able to break out my desk from storage. Im so happy to have this thing again. Also, someone left a small TV so I am using that as a third monitor.

thank you!

yes. the big one is 23.5" 1080, the one on the right is a 17" 900", and the one on the left is a small tv 15" (i think) 720.

the 17" came from my parents old desktop, they switch to macs. the tv i found in my apartment, left from the previous person.

I love Hackintosh builds. Clean and simple. I was thinking of doing the same just to mess with Mac but honestly with things breaking with new updates come out all the time, I think it would be wiser for me to just invest in a proper (albeit expensive) Mac.

probably so but if you use a stable update to begin with you shouldnt need to update. I stopped updating my macbook pro because it is starting to slow down. plus I dont use any of the new features so i am content with mountain lion. if you want OSX get a legit mac. hackintoshs are not perfect and do encounter problems.

That's my main issue - I don't mind fixing bugs as they would actually be a fun learning experience but it becomes tedious when you're using the computer for school work and then something breaks so yea unfortunately I'm going to have to go with Apple. :/

Update: 12/20/2015

Its been awhile since my last update. Lets get started. Same specs as before, just a new case. Ive decided to go with the Corsair Air 240. A bit more spacious case compared to the prodigy, and the cable management job to prove it.

The bubbles will move in time, can take a few hours-days-week depending on the pump.

the res for the loop is on the rad and that spot is at the bottom side down. so nearly no luck getting it out.

They will collect somewhere in time, if I was you I'd put a res in the loop. Not sure what else to say, not a fan of AIO units because of weak pumps and trapped air and other issues. That coolant looks great by the way.

well. the desk itself is not the most stable thing. but the platform is much more stable.

koolance blue coolant. its good stuff. with as much bubbles as there is i doubt they all will settle. it may be an aio but the tubing is not original as i have cut it to length to fit precisely.
