HDMI Cable Length

I know HDMI cable quality means nothing since its digital but I though I might've heard Linus mention that at long distances the signal degrades. If this is true, how much will a 100ft HDMI cable change the signal? If not, what could cause signal degradation? Kinks? tears?

Isn't it just like the concept of Resistance? The longer electricity travels the more is lost?

basically the signal gets weaker the further down the cable you go, i believe its down to the conductivity of the wiring inside the cable

 

even the cheapst cable should reach up to 50ft easily, more expensive wiring is needed for longer distances 

 

if its going really far, like say 300ft then a repeater is needed

 

a cheaper alternative is HDMI over ethernet
