1080p or 1440p Gaming Monitor

JohnnyChan

Which monitor is better for gaming (Bf4) 1080p or 1440p? Pros and Cons? Will be planning to run nvidia surround. Would perfer a 27" monitor or 24" (What would you recommend?) Will only use BenQ or ASUS. Currently running 780ti (Sli in the future).

Depends on the refresh rates. It 1080p with a higher refresh rate> 1440p with lower refresh rate for FPS's

There is no pure "better for gaming" anything. It just depends on what you'd be more comfortable with, and would enjoy playing with most. That said, we do still need to know more info.

"M. Aronnax." replied the Canadian, "your arguments are rotten at the foundation. You speak in the future, 'We shall be there! we shall be here!' I speak in the present, 'We are here, and we must profit by it.'"

We'd need to know what graphics hardware you were running in order to properly asses whether or not you'd actually be able to drive a 1440p panel.

CPU: 5930K @ 4.5GHz | GPU: Zotac GTX 980Ti AMP! Extreme edition @ 1503MHz/7400MHz | RAM: 16GB Corsair Dom Plat @ 2667MHz CAS 13 | Motherboard: Asus X99 Sabertooth | Boot Drive: 400GB Intel 750 Series NVMe SSD | PSU: Corsair HX1000i | Monitor: Dell U2713HM 1440p monitor

1440p is better in every way if you have the power to support it.

1440p pro : pixel density is beautiful and will give you a lot more screen real estate

1440p pro : 1440p monitors use IPS (or other high quality panel type, except for the Asus ROG 1440p) panel which produce better and more accurate colors

1440p con: you'll have to upgrade your graphic(s) card more frequently with 1440p.

1440p con: expensive relative to 1080p

1440p con: high response time increases mouse latency

1440p con: max 60hz refresh rate (except for Asus RoG which has 120Hz)

1080 pro : lower pixel density (depends on the size of monitor of course; I believe 21.5" 1080p = 27" 1440p)

1080 pro: inexpensive

1080 pro: lower response time which reduces mouse latency

1080 pro :high refresh rates (you have to actually achieve that framerate though)

1080p con: TN panel (not necessarily bad, but don't produce as accurate colors like a IPS panel)

Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow; Motherboard: MSI ZZ490 Gaming Edge; CPU: i7 10700K @ 5.1GHz; Cooler: Noctua NHD15S Chromax; RAM: Corsair LPX DDR4 32GB 3200MHz; Graphics Card: Asus RTX 3080 TUF; Power: EVGA SuperNova 750G2; Storage: 2 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB; Crucial M500 240GB & MX100 512GB; Keyboard: Logitech G710+; Mouse: Logitech G502; Headphones / Amp: HiFiMan Sundara Mayflower Objective 2; Monitor: Asus VG27AQ

No. It's IPS.

Can I get a link or a model number. I am interested. I was going to wait for G-Sync but $350 for an ips 1440p monitor is cheap.

What about refresh rate? and im not talking about those korean monitors. Refresh rate is so downplayed and that's why I'm sticking with 22" 1080p IPS until innovation starts. I'd hate to get a 120Hz monitor and have to downgrade because I wanted to go up to 1440p and 120Hz isnt widely supported (yet).

Still learning how to play Dota 2 :)

Which monitor is better for gaming (Bf4) 1080p or 1440p? Pros and Cons?

Lets start off with this. What are the specs of your system right now? You need the power to game at 1440p if you are going to get a 1440p monitor. Also, 1440p wont scale down pixle to pixle to 1080p so other resolutions may look "off"

Case: Phanteks Evolve X with ITX mount  cpu: Ryzen 3900X 4.35ghz all cores Motherboard: MSI X570 Unify gpu: EVGA 1070 SC  psu: Phanteks revolt x 1200W Memory: 64GB Kingston Hyper X oc'd to 3600mhz ssd: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB ITX System CPU: 4670k  Motherboard: some cheap asus h87 Ram: 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz
