4k worth it?

DanielTheBest

Hi.

I'm wondering if 4k resolution is really worth it; I mean, can you really see the difference between 1080p/1444p/4k?

Thanks!

Yes. Yes you can. 1440p is twice the resolution as 1080p, and 4k is quadruple the resolution of 1080p. The higher the resolution, the more crisp an image looks and also the higher work space you have.. But with that becomes higher performance demands, not even 3 titans can play games on a 4k monitor at ultra settings 60fps. But if you have the budget for one, and if you plan on gaming and have a decent enough rig, 1440p or 4k is definitely worth it.

4k is like comparing a 140p monitor and a 1080p monitor

so in other words, yes, but as of now no because of the prices.

There is a huge difference but with the ridiculous amount of money for a 4k monitor and the gpus to run it makes it not worth it for most people but if you have the money go for it.

4K will be overpriced until they become more standard and produced.  Yes you can tell the difference between these resolutions.  Is 4K worth it right now?  I would say no.  There is hardly any 4K content and the prices are ridiculous.  I'm staying away from 4K for a while.

<$700 4K for WORK is worth it.

4K for gaming requires about a $5000 budget for the monitor and GPUs....it's up to you if that's worth it.

1440p is twice the resolution as 1080p

It's actually 2.7k so it's not twice.

My personal opinion is that you can tell the difference, but it's not worth the performance drop and the price of the 4k monitors.

(2560*1440)/(1920*1080) = 1.778. So it's about twice.

Gaming in 4K doesn't make sense. Gaming isn't ready for 4K and it's a waste of money at this time.

The only reason 4K would make sense is content creation. Photography, graphic design, video editing, 3D rendering etc OR you just want the screen space for say multiple windows etc.

Research on the eyes capabilities suggest that our eyes can distinguish a screen from reality in pixel density up to about 12,000p on a 24" monitor. We have a long way to go before the pixel density of a screen genuinely fools the eyes into seeing something that looks like reality.

You can simulate the effect of 4k by downloading a 4k image, viewing just 1/4 of it and then going twice as far back from your screen to view it. Then take a 1080p image and view 1/4 of it and again sit twice as far back and you'll see what 1080p density looks like on 4k, If you notice a big difference then 4k is going to bring a lot of extra fidelity for you, if you don't then it wont.

I recently bought a 4k dell panel and I have to say I do love how thieving looks on it but do some research. Web browsing kinda sucks alot of blank and white space on pages cause they dont fill it with anything. Make sure the games you always play support your res also. I ran into alot of issues with running some steam games in 4k.

the samsung will be out soon  for 699$ which is the average price of a 1440P so the monitior itself not to bad . (and go buy your 3 crappy 1080s who ever is thinking it)  the GPU side  you dont need as much as everyone exaggerates unless your running metro maxxed out and thats all you play. This is like the psu section OHHH you need a 1500 watt because your running a 560 gtx!  no you wont. lol

depends on what your doing if its worth it or not

Is it one of those TN ones because it likely is. If your just after pixels go for it but they arnt everything. I remember when I went from a ~$200 1680x1050 TN to getting a PA246Q on launch and my monitor perspective changed. I think I would rather now have a PA249Q than a PB278Q given the choice.

Entry level brand name 1440p was $700 not too long ago and nice ones ~$1000. But the PB278Q is now down to $550 and the PA279Q down to $800.

its 1.778x as much, close enough :P

If you want the 4k experience, go for it. But keep in mind lots of games probably don't even have textures for it yet, and you need SERIOUS GPU horsepower to drive it.

I may if there's ever a price drop on them to around ~1500$ for IPS 60 hz.

I'd like to now, but I can't warrant spending 2.5k-3k on a monitor :(

Youll probably see my IGZO than IPS. Actually has anyone even announced a $K IPS or PLS display? Also how many have true 60hz without being two monitors?

This is another one of those tech's that no one really needs and its being promoted so people do want it but barely any other tech is caught up so there isnt any real use in the consumer world, especially mainstream wise.
