Another G5 - Finished the case..For now..

JokuTyyppi

Yeah i really do need to do that :D I think i will use hot glue, or make a small metal shield for it.

Wow it is much better with your way ;) Thanks!

I wouldn't use metal, I'd get some of that black potting epoxy cause that looks very nice, or there is this special stuff called elephantide used for shielding high voltage stuff, but I don't think it's very attractive lol

I'm glad to hear that :) I've got these 2 G5 cases sitting around and all these ideas of how to do builds in them but my only choice atm would be to move my current pc with a full ATX mobo into it. And I'd need some kind of HDD mounts sooooooo, they just sit around :(

This build is inspiring though!

How do you think hot glue would do? That is something i have plenty so it would be nice if it was suitable :)

You don't have to move your own build into it, you can use some parts to measure how to place things in the case and build it ATX compatible. Atleast that is what i am doing. Some people make this pc look as attractive as possible but then they need to customize some parts. My goal is that you can put any atx standard pc parts in to the case without a trouble and modding. I will get my hdd mounts from my friends pc as he has a hdd cage lying around. I think if you had time you really should start modding atleast one of your G5s and if you don't have any use for it, sell it. Someone will be very happy to get that case as everyone is not able to mod a pc or don't have time :)

You've made some nice progress!

I think hot glue would work just fine, I'd suggest you put the rear of the case facing down and put some glue on every visible piece of metal (the connectors). You don't need to make a uniform coating on it, just cover all the metallic parts. Then, if you like, you can make & install a metallic cover to, well, cover it.

Current rig: i7-5820K, R5E, 1070ti (windows), Radeon HD7850 (Mac), a bunch of SSDs and HDDs, running MacOS Mojave, Windows 10 + a bunch of debian servers on Proxmox KVM hypervisor

Good :) I'll do that.

[uPDATE]

Now i have made a very professional looking (LOL) fan mount for 120mm fans in the front. Aaand cut the back io so that the cables can be plugged to the mobo. Also i glued that end of the power cord and it looks AWFUL!!!!!! I failed it a couple of times and... Let the pictures speak...

Starting to cut the fan mount

I already have the standoffs mounted, and I've done some modding of the back of the case. My goal would be the same as yours, to make it fit standard sized parts :)

I wouldn't want to sell it, but I'm not gonna buy parts to build another pc atm. I wouldn't mind moving my build into it but I'd prefer to use a mATX board

EDIT: Oh also I was going to suggest trying to put some black or grey heat shrink over the hot glue. Heat shrink + hot glue can work pretty good, I've used it for 3.5mm jacks for headphone before by covering the wires in hot glue then shrinking clear heat shrink over it. It looked really cool with the coloured varnish of the wire and the solder joints. Just gotta try make sure there are no bubbles in the glue or between the glue and the heat shrink. For this it's probably be best to use grey if you can find any. Or make some kind of cover out of metal now that it is insulated

[Finished - For now...]

Soo.. I finished the case now. And the goal was to make it ATX (or mATX in this case) compatible. I didn't have any actual use for the case so i fitted in my mothers pc and it is gonna stay in there for a while till i have a new idea. The cable management is AWFUL right now. I know that. But the psu is some ASUS stock psu and i needed to solder the 4pin wire a little longer :D And it is an awful psu in every possible way :D So it just...looks that way. If i am going to build some cool machine in there, then i promise i will do better job with the cable management. I am very familiar with that stuff with my own pc :D Atleast i sleeved the front io cables now.
