Another G5 - Finished the case..For now..

Hello! It is time for another G5 build here. But there are never enough G5 Pc's, aren't there?

 

Someone might remember when i told that i had got three of these G5's. I gave two of them to my friend and now I have decided to mod mine a PC. I am not sure yet what i am going to do with the finished case. My own computer won't fit there because that case takes only matx mobos. I was thinking to put my moms pc in there :P But there is also possibility to sell the case. If i had money i would build a Hackintosh in there. What would be the cheapest way to build a hackintosh?

 

Anyway, the case was a PITA to disassemble... It took a couple of hours for me to figure out how to take out certain parts. But now it is empty finally :) I have already epoxied the mobo standoffs there and made the power button and led to function (which was also a PITA with my VERY rough welding tools...) Tomorrow i think i will try to figure out how to put the PSU. I made a deal with that friend i gave those two G5's that if i gave my G5's PSU to him, he will make me a normal power plug to the back of the case.

I cut the back IO from the mac mobo to fill the back of the case so that it looks good. But unfortunately it doesn't fit there when the mobo is installed.

the G5 is really an awesome case. If only someone sold something similar and with cable management. 

 

Oh, and it needs to be cheap.

Yes it is a nice case but needs a ton of work to look good when pc stuff is in.

For me those three functioning G5's cost nothing :P

Had to follow a national g5 build. What store are you getting the parts from?

PC specs.3570k, asus p8z77m pro, 8gb corsair vengence 1600MHz, XFX 550w, seagate barracuda 1TB, MSI 660ti, cooler master k350, cooler master hyper tx3 evo.

Till this point i haven't had to buy anything and i am not sure yet that what i am going to do with this case when it is fully ATX standardized. If i buy something, it is most likely be Jimms PC-Store where i buy my needings. :)

No such thing as too much G5, will definitely be watching.

And sorry I havent had time to update as my school is really keeping me busy. But two progress steps today: I bought a better soldering iron AND i got that standard power plug my friend made. It was a tradeoff for G5 psu, 8 sticks of ram and powercable.

i'm pretty jealous of you. before there were a jimms pretty close by in arabia but it shut down a couple of years ago

I hope i have time to make that psu mount soon. Next thursday begins the exam week... :/ So prolly no updates for a week after next thursday.

I've got a good feeling about this build (not just because of my participation :D ). About those cables: yeah, you really should sleeve them, at least if ya ask me ;)

 Oh, and thanks again for giving me that other G5 case! We'll see when I've got the time & money required to get modding.. School & Redefine R4 have kept me all busy (not tryna to hijack the thread, but if someone is interested, there might appear an update in the R4 thread during the next weekend..)

 

Keep up  the great work, mate!

I measured that it might be possible to fit a psu in the top of the case, with that metal "upper middle plate" there will be only a couple of millimeters of clearance :) BTW, does anyone have unneeded hdd cages lying around?

Now i cut the upper "mid plate" and maybe tomorrow start to make a mount for the psu in the top.

I actually do. From my phantom 410 it slides out.

Yeah I would give them to you if you lived within 5 min or payed for shipping.

I found two G5's lying around in the trash at my dad's workplace :3 Not the trash but like the dump pile :P They are getting ready to trash them!
