Question about TSMC, Foxconn

image.png.e74311644177cb4ba118cf00e53a3573.png

Does TSMC designs chips for Apple or Apple designs their own chips and manufactures by TSMC?

Does Foxconn also designs chips for Apple?

Apple's chips are designed by Apple, based on ARM's design and they are manufactured by TSMC (at least with the Apple A14 for example).

Someone like TSMC designs the production process.

one more question, are "5nm" and "7nm" all designed by Apple? and amd "7nm" is also designed by their own? so TSMC just produces for them?

TSMC is the one who design the nodes and makes the chips that other people design.

are the "5nm" and "7nm" is the intellectual property of TSMC?

the nodes would indeed be under TSMC as far as ive understood it.

keep in mind that those arent a single node, there are multiple "7nm" nodes, and multiple "7nm" nodes

The "5nm" or "7nm" is just the...marketed size.

That number itself doesn't mean anything.

it is basically saying a V6 and V8 engine...but a Toyota/Lexus V8 is different from a Ford V8.

TSMC's 7nm, GlobalFoundaries' 7nm, Samsung's 7nm, are all different.
