This is what I've decided to go for, what do you think? Is the RAM an overkill? should I wait for the AMD card?

Is this a gaming centric build I assume?

 

Id go for faster ram. 3600 CL16 would be a fantastic option. 3200 is a bit on the slow side.

Mind waiting like 18 more days for amd? For intel the ram is overkill yeah.

 

But I assume this is a gaming rig? If so you can easily drop that cpu down to a 10600k and 16gb of ram with a cheaper but as good cooler like the sycthe fuma 2 or sycthe ninja 5 (both perform basically the same as a nhd15 the ninja being 1-2c behind it but also being more quiet).

 

Doing this will not result in any difference in gaming as well gaming currently does not use more than 8 threads so the 10900k is pretty pointless. Even in the future don't expect it to ever go past 16 threads as well thats the max the new consoles have (they'll probably have a couple threads reserverd for the system but we'll see).

 

Other than that pretty decent build nothing really wrong with it.

Oh, also go with at least an 850 watt if you plan to OC the 3080 or 10900k. But If you do plan to OC the 10900k, I would consider a better mobo as well.

 

Basically, OCing a 10900k is a lot of work for not much gain and takes more thought about the mobo and PSU since it’s such a power hungry chip when OCed.

We should talk about the CPU choice before these two, it's harder to justify Intel than Nvidia at this point. Should still wait for Ryzen 5000 benchmarks tho

 

RAM isn't overkill for capacity, for a high end rig 32GB makes sense as long as it doesnt lead to cutting corners elsewhere. The frequency and timings tho are quite weak for a high end system. 3600MHz 18-22-22-42 should be the bare minimum for anything above US$1500. At 2 grand of british money for everything inside the case there should be 4000MHz memory. Faster memory helps with frame rates as well.

 

Should wait for the AMD card, even if you dont end up buying one from them. AMD should have a competitor for the 3080 (not so much 3090 tho) that can help drop prices and increase supply (since there's now two options)

 

Also overclocking headroom on the 10900k is limited with an air cooler, that 300w class CPU needs better cooling than that.
