You do realize the 14nm process for Intel is different across different fabs (semiconductor fabrication plant). Processing nodes are different across pretty much all fabs and as a result, they are not equal.

AMD marketshare on desktop for the steam hardware survey is likely even higher than 25% considering the amount of laptops that are on there that are exclusively intel. I mean 768p is pretty much a laptop only res and makes up 9% of the survey. at least 7 of those would be intel.

We go to Walmart or Microcenter to buy a $300-$310 i7 10700. 2 extra cores for ten extra dollars. AMD can just charge a bit more for a few more frames until Intel gets back in it. I'm more than happy to buy CPUs from either if they start a price war.

and looking to upgrade to either the Ryzen 5 or 7

with a $150, is it worth getting the 7

can 5 handle things video editing, streaming gameplay capture, etc 

or is it best to get the the 7

I am actually underwhelmed, the technological improvements may or may not make a difference, but the cost is painfully increased. Even if it is as fast as they claim I'm going to be unhappy to have to spend more.

I personally was thinking about it at the time I was deciding on this rig...but I really don't see any performance gains over what I currently have and I am happy with what I am getting from my rig.

Just saw some UK prices for the Ryzen 5 and 7 and the cheapest so far are

Ryzen 5 5600x (6/12) - £290

Ryzen 7 5800x (8/16) - £430

Ryzen 9 5900x (12/24) - £530

 

While Intel are priced at

Intel Core i5-10600K (6/12) - £250

Intel Core i7-10700K (8/16) - £360

Intel Core i9-10700K (10/20) - £625

 

So given the price difference, if I'm aiming for 8/16, I might seriously consider sticking with intel i7 as the price is too big a difference to ignore.

Now, might the price change come November, maybe, so, I'm to give AMD a chance and wait, before making any final decisions on which one.

 

Because if I'm honest, I really don't see that much of a performance difference between the two. but as I said, I'll wait until the official release and after some independent testing has been done.

Guys, I am the only one who noticed in the graph of memory scaling, that DDR-4 2133 is faster than 3200MHz when FCLK is run on 1900? How is this actually possible? 2133 vs. 3200 is HUGE difference in memory bandwidth, I just don't see how higher infinity fabric can make up for that. Does in mean the infinity fabric on default speed is huge bottleneck?

Last I checked the big boys like Amazon and Google that provide cloud services and what not are slowly switching over to Epyc though

Great performance but a big let down on pricing.

20% higher performance for 50% higher price (for the new 6 core vs the old 6 core)? No thanks.

 

It must be tough to compete with yourself, but I wish AMD had at least matched their previous price to performance ratio. Right now you can get a 12 core Zen2 CPU for less than the 8 core Zen3 CPU. That's not a good value proposition from AMD.

But I guess that now that AMD are ahead in pretty much all performance categories it's time for them to dump the "we're a value brand" are instead take Intel's old position as the "we're a premium brand and you will pay premium prices for our products".

It's always best to wait for third party reviews.

But like I said earlier, the Ryzen 5000 series is pretty bad in terms of price to performance.

If you are aiming for a 6 core 12 thread CPU then I would probably recommend the Ryzen 5 3600. It's 190 pounds so it's significantly cheaper than the i5-10600K, but performs very similarly.

idk that market is arguable the one amd had an advantage in much sooner with their more cores, higher ipc, and better power efficiency. its just they are cautious about new products but amd pretty much proven themselves at this point.
