How the hell are you supposed to buy a new monitor. 

 

I have $800. Can someone please tell me what to buy. 

 

Ryzen 7 3700

32gb ram

planning to add a 3080 when it is available

 

Don't game competitively

Also work from the computer.

My desk area can support a large monitor. 

 

Please help. This is a harder decision than naming my first born child.

Do you just need a lot of screen real estate or also need a very accurate colours for video/photo editing, etc...?

How do you buy any other product?

You should first look at what's available in your price range within your region and maybe limit yourself to a few monitors. Let's say three.

Then you either look at individual reviews and see what performs the best for the money, or you come here, and we do exactly the same.

Well first you need to decide if your doing 16:9, 21:9 or 32:9. I would suggest a 21:9 panel because they are great for productivity. Then you have to decide the desired resolution. Then the size. 

 

I have a 24: 21:9 LG IPS monitor. My only regret is that I didn't go bigger. Would suggest a 27 to 32" model. I myself prefer IPS panels, I won't touch TN panels with a 30 foot pole. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

First you look at the reviews and narrow down your choises to few monitors, then you check the prices and make a decision.

I'll give you few tools, first we have the written articles.

And then we have the table tool, please do take some time and learn to use it because it's going to make your job a lot easier. You can add filters from the add column button, and you can find the names of the said filters from the reviews. It's going to take 10-30 minutes to set up for the first time, but it's definetly worth it.

In all seriousness, start with what you know.

You have a budget, and you have a screen right now.

What does your screen do right now that you wish the new one would keep doing?

What does your screen not do right now that you wish the new one would?

Do you like your aspect ratio? How would changing it affect the applications you use?

Do you like your current monitor's color reproduction capabilities? What would you gain/lose from a change in accuracy?

Do you like your current monitor's size and resolution? How would your physical space and viewing distance change with a new panel?

 

Since you've already set a budget, come up with an answer to each of these questions and use your answer to filter  what's available.
