14 year old camera in 2020

The sony A100 was released a while ago, in 2006, it has a  23,6 x 15,8mm 10mp sensor and can take some decent pictures in the right conditions

Not you might notice that this photo's aren't perfect, most of them aren't even good, but from a technical point of view the two lenses I've got have a bit of a problem with chromatic aberration, especially in some light conditions

The CCD sensor has some hot pixels, and the AWB is kinda shit, also it can't shoot video, guess why.

The A100 still uses CF cards, and these can still hold their own in speed, less so in capacity (I have a 16Gb model, and it can fill up quite fast when shooting in raw, the camera spits out 10Mb files), but for such an old format, I'd say surprisingly good.

Another fun thing is that it uses the old minolta A mount, you can use old minolta lenses as well as newer sony made ones.

I'd take this camera over a modern phone any day of the week, but that's maybe just me, I don't really like all those software shenanigans

It also helps that you know what you are doing. An old tool in the hands of an expert will out perform a modern tool held by a novice.

The best camera is the one that is with you when you need it. If you're happy, don't change it.

Personally I like to print big and have headroom to crop so this isn't for me, but I'm a DSLR shooter too.

indeed, I also like the old caselabs ones, but they don't make them anymore

I think with RAW it goes a long way. Love the photos!

I use a 13 year old camera for certain commercial projects, because it is the only APS-C body I own. The 10MP sensor is perfect for the amount of compositing I need to do on the images, and is sufficient for the output specs. I charge thousands of dollars a day for a camera that had a <$1000 MSRP at launch and is worth probably around $100 today. It is by far the best ROI camera that I own.

 

Cameras are tools. If they get the job done, then they're fine. If you need to do something that your current tools can't do, then get a better tool.
