Dedicated stream PC cpu decision help

god_bmxes

So I am building a dedicated streaming PC and have picked out everything now except for the cpu. I was recommended to use a r3 3100, but im now torn between it ans a r5 2600. The 3100 is around 125 or so with shipping off newegg and is coming from Canada for some reason, while the 2600 is coming from the US and is 145 currently. So do I order a 3100 and wait a month, or do I order the 2600 for $20~ more and get it sooner

Side note, do I wait all together for the 4000 launch in a week or so?

Get the 2600. You want the cores/Threads for streaming.

In terms of streaming, i'd say the 2600, though if your build is the same one in your sig, you can just use the hardware encoder (nvec) on your gpu and offload that work to it without needing the second pc.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Audio: Logitech G432, Moondrop Starfield, Mic: Razer Siren Mini (White).

Phone: Pixel 3a (Purple-ish).

I wish it worked better or I would. I'm sure the bottleneck for streaming off my main rig is my cpu but I get too much stuttering and fram drops while gaming on it, thats why I'm going for a 2 pc setup.

Thank you, have you had any issues with your streaming PC? Looks to be close to my stream PC build aside from the HD60 Pro I got

Zero issues. I have 3 different capture cards in mine with no issues. Able to do 1080/60 at 7k bitrate all day long with zero hiccups caused by system issues with my 1800x.

Have you had any experience with the HD60 Pro, im running a 3440x1440 100 htz monitor and am thinking I should go to the 4k 60 pro.

Also, I am pretty new to dual PC setups but why 3 capture cards?

Yea as i said you could use the hardware encoder on your gpu (assuming it's the 2070 super), but if you're set on a streaming pc, the 2600.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

I would only get the 4k if you use it as a pass through with HDMI. I personally use Display Port for my main monitor and only run HDMI into the capture cards, no out except for my Console captures.

As @TofuHaroto mentioned, you can just use NVENC with the 2070 super, which is a fantastic encoder and save yourself the money of a dual PC setup. The NVENC on the 2000 series is pretty much equal to h.264 CPU encoding.

I'll have to give the 2070 supers encoder another chance this morning, but so far every time I use it I get very noticeable frame drops in COD MW. But maybe I am just doing something wrong.

Make sure you watch this video on how to properly set it up. Its tricky, because if you change certain settings in OBS, it will revert to the old encoder.

post screenshot of your OBS's setting's video tab and Output's Streaming tab if streaming, Recording tab if recording.

and remember to quote or mention when replying so people will see it @Moonzy

Here is one of the screenshots I think you are talking about.

The problem I am having now is the stream seems to be find but there is very noticeable input delay on my computer now. Coincidentally there is a new driver update for lag in COD MW so I am trying that out now

Those are my settings at the moment. There is still lag in the new driver in cod while streaming, though a bit better. Also still getting some frame drops as well while streaming on top of the input lag

nothing looks majorly wrong, streaming wise

you can try downloading DDU and gpu driver, then run DDU and reinstall driver

and then you can also monitor individual cpu thread usage while gaming, see if any of them are hitting above 90% constantly

Thank you guys for all the advise and troubleshooting tips. I think I am gonna go the dedicated route, its not the most ideal but games are only gonna start to be more and more intensive from here on out. Definitely think the CPU is hitting it limits while streaming though.
