Weird memory issue

Hello everyone,

 

I have been having significant stability issues since installing my new set of RAM:

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32gb 3200mhz

 

Rest of the setup:

- i7 6700k overclocked to 4,5ghz (stable for the last 3 years)

- ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger 

- RTX 2070 Super

 

Problem:

After installing my new RAM, I have been getting several different blue screens on startup, as well as random crashes. The most recent blue screen was CASH_MANAGER, on other was PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and the other one I can't remember.

The XMP profile is of course enabled in the BIOS, but I have noticed quite a weird thing: The memory speed shows up differently in different sections of the BIOS, as well as in windows. The XMP profile is set to 3200mhz, but it shows up as 3395mhz in various places as well as in windows. If the momory is really running at that speed (which it is not rated for) - I am guessing that this is causing the problem?

I have tried reseating it several times, as well as CMOS resets and taking out the CPU overclock. All drivers are up to date.

bclk affects memory speed, 100 is the normal bclk  (this should result in it running ~3300mhz, not sure where the other 100 is coming from...) Save your bios settings and load optimized defaults, check ram speed to see if it's operating at the speed set then.

As @Cyracus said, set BCLK to 100.

With BCLK at 100 you should get 3200MHz.

 

And I also don't know why it says 3395MHz with BCLK at 103 because it should be 3296MHz.

Maybe the Spread Spectrum is enabled and it makes the BCLK fluctuate in which case the clock can vary by as much as 100MHz with 32 multiplier or the multiplier is set to almost 33 for the memory instead of 32.

 

And BCLK affects everything from CPU, RAM to PCIe and SATA so it may even make your SSDs unstable.

Thank you gentlemen -> that worked. After almost 20 years of gaming and tinkering, the BCLK value has never come up once for me. Still learning something new every day :D

Let's hope the bluescreening is solved with that as well.

Curious why the BCLK was increased to 103 MHz.

Did you try to do some manual overclocking?

(You've got a i7-6700K, and should be overclocking the CPU by increasing the CPU Ratio anyways).

No - I always used to "EZ-whatever" automatic overclocking feature from ASUS -> I wonder if that automatically sets a new BCLK speed as well. Maybe I am the only one using that feature and that is the reason? :D
