HX vs HXI

is the only difference the ability to monitor with software? Or does the I have better components?

HX is older, and doesn't connect to iCUE.  HXi is newer, and connects to iCUE

What is the point of the icue software, just begin able to see how much power is begin drawn?

It's the other way around actually, HX Platinum is newer. But the only practical difference is the iCUE connectivity, yes.

So it's pointless me getting the icue one if I'm not going to use the software? And I was about to say I looked at reviews the hxi came in 2015 while the hx in 2017

I have a Corsair HX850 semi modular from 2012'ish.  Probably refresh in 2017 with a different label and fully modular.

 

I like iCUE software, if everything in your PC can use it.  Its quite a nice layout imho for a second monitor to customize your layout as well.  Fully control over Corsair items also.  I find it neat, but I wouldn't pay a premium if I didn't also have AIO's, PSU, compatible RAM (some work with it, some don't, not Corsair ram required), GPU (some GPUs show everything, some show nothing).

 

However I do have a few of those items and I still choose other monitoring programs over it (HWInfo, HWMonitor)

That's the much older version.  

 

It was replaced with the 80 PLUS Platinum HXi in 2013.  That version has remained unchanged for the last 7 years.  The current Platinum HX came out only about four or five years ago.

Question - I remember buying the HX850 V2 in 2012 along with the entire FX8350 build I rocked for quite a long time, why am I finding so many reviews on the unit I have saying it was released in 2012?  Im not arguing with you, Ive tried that before and you know far more than I do lol, but truly curious - as the link you gave I couldn't find dates

It was released in 2012... But was only on the market for one year before being replaced by HXi.

It does look new but I'm going to get a replacement. I swear to god I have the worst luck when it comes to buying electronics.
