RTX 3080 performing as poor as my old GTX 1070 Ti

GoldMichi
Go to solution Solved by Moonzy,

ok, lets get things in order

issues:

1) SOTR CPU limited (solved, it's really cpu limited, based on game benchmark's info, and the fps is about what i'd expect)

2) GPU not utilising 100%

3) GPU running hot when it's above 90% usage

solution:

1) new cpu to raise FPS, new monitor to utilise gpu more, but will get lower avg fps if you also face gpu bound

2) run unigine heaven, you'll be able to stress test the gpu to make sure it's not a faulty unit

3) side panel test, if it worked then

3a) change casing

3b) reconfigure current setup to fully utilise what you currently have

did i miss anything?

Could just be the drivers are terrible at the moment.

could be, but so far the only issue ive seen is crashing when clock speed exceeds ~2ghz for some cards

btw im about done trying to help

i cant help you if you refuse to do what i say

you kept complaining high gpu temp, but refuse to open the side panel to test for issues. so i probably wont reply any further

i probably said open the side panel more than 5 times

this thread is so messy jesus

run unigine heaven, to stress the gpu at 99%, let the temp rise, see where it stops at

i'd also recommend trying firestrike and timespy; see if your results are similar to what you should expect from a 3080

tyt, just run unigine for, say, 5 minutes first, let the temp and clock speed finalise, then you can screenshot msi afterburner

expected result:

temp: ~70c with side panel off, 85c with side panel on (which is bad, ideally it's 70-75c with side panel on, will advice you on how to improve your current setup later)

clock speed: ~2.0ghz

power draw: ~95-102%

temp looks ok, albeit a tad high, but ig 3080 is a hotter running card

core clock is a bit low, from what i expect anyways

driver is up to date

yeap looks ok, your gpu looks healthy

at least we know it's not a defective unit

I'll try with panel on ^^ will let you know if you care. But seems like we've found the issue, thanks to you! Sorry for being a slowpoke and being all over the place. Really appreciated your help and patience :)

it's fine

my bad for getting annoyed, bad headache (no reason to be an ass anyways)

you can run with side panel on, if you have no pets or small children until you buy a new casing

or you can shift the radiator to the top(?), i think i see a big enough space for a 240 radiator

this allows more fresh air to cool the GPU. you can move 2 of your case fans to the front as intake, should improve temps by a bit

Sadly theres not enough space at the top. But I ran it with panel on and got 81 °C after Benchmark and 1.875 Ghz clock speed. Guess it's a new case then lol. Thanks a ton again! Hope you're having a wonderful day and stay safe :)
