Google Pixel 4 XL Shutting Down Issue

Kelp

I was at school today and I was using my phone like normal. I put it in my pocket for a minute to talk to a friend and when I took it back out, it refused to turn on. I held the power button for about 30 seconds and nothing happened. My phone was around 90% and was working fine prior to this. The only way I was able to get it to turn back on was to plug it in to the charger for a second. Since then, it's happened  3 more times. 2 of those were in school within 5 mins of each other, and one of them was at home.  I am updated to the latest os version, Android 11, and I'm not sure if this is a software or hardware issue. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a way to prevent this or is it a hardware issue?

Update - It's happened three more times since last night. When I plugged in the phone the last time it happened(5 mins ago), I got a battery symbol with a question mark in it. Does this mean I have a battery issue? Or might it be a motherboard issue?
