My laptop is failing to POST, then boots fine.

This is weird. My laptop motherboard has been removed from its plastic shell to be run as a desktop, but when I turn it on, it starts to post, as the LEDs and then turns off with a *click*. Then it tries to post again, the bios prompt shows up, then it boots fine. Why would this be happening?

who is the manufacturer of the original laptop and does it use integrated graphics

Is this before or after the drill holes? 

 

Any beeps for post codes?  As mentioned, need your specs

It is a Acer Aspire 5532. It has a (really) old socked Athlon 64 TF-20 (1.6ghz) with no igpu. it has a onboard Radeon HD 3200 graphics chip.

It probably failed a unnecessarily check that the manufacturer added,then reboots itself automatically with the check flagged to be ignored.

Has happened since I took it out. Possibly before, just considered it long boots.  Just decieded to ask.

What i mean is that the check is related to an unnecessary (for the laptop to function) laptop component that you you had to remove such as touchpad,keyboard,etc.

Yeah, that makes sense. It has no speakers, toutchpad, keyboard, or wifi antennas.

Could be a sensor that is no longer attached now that it is out of the shell. I know Macs can do some wonky things when they don't have a sensor plugged back in after reassembly (at least that was the case when I was an Apple Certified repair tech many many years ago).

This makes the most sense, I have an OEM board that wont post until I hit an F key if all of the fan headers aren't populated by the proprietary fans.

 

Solution?  Cut off connectors, put them in as dummy plugs and use a fan hub (even the headers on the mobo are proprietary amps and spacing for 4 pin)
