USB sd card reader disconnecting during import

I got a new usb 3.0 sd card reader and im having a repeated issue where when I dump large amounts of photos and videos (like 100gb+) from an sd card to a 1tb hard drive, it will stop after like 30ish gigs and then every usb port will disconnect including keyboard, mouse, headphones, and the sd card reader. The import then obviously fails and i have to click try again, get another 30-50 gigs before it does it again and I just reapeat that until it finished importing but it is soooo annoying and I have to sit here and click try again every time it fails.

Does it do that with other SD cards? I have had really weird issues pop up in the past when using a certain SD card, if you have another card I would test it on that to rule out a card problem.
