Building a new rig and need help with an AX4 MOBO

Out of the B550 boards, I'd avoid the Steel Legend if you plan on overclocking a 3900X/3950X. It's not a particularly outstanding board, though it does have one cool feature - a POST code.

To add to the list, I'd consider these:

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/y96qqs/asus-rog-strix-b550-a-gaming-atx-am4-motherboard-rog-strix-b550-a-gaming

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/qXBhP6/gigabyte-b550-aorus-pro-atx-am4-motherboard-b550-aorus-pro

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/7gxbt6/msi-b550-a-pro-atx-am4-motherboard-b550-a-pro

I wouldn't get neither the X570 Gaming X nor the X570 UD.

Hello, I'm having trouble deciding what motherboard I should put in my new build, my budget is about $300AUD for a MOBO so I don't know if I should get an X570 or a newer B550. CPU is a placeholder depending on whether the new Zen3 are worth buying in my budget.

Build: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/jTvnsk

I was thinking of one of these but any improvements would also be nice:

B550

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING - $289AUD

MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK - $279AUD

ASRock B550 STEEL LEGEND - $265AUD

X570

Gigabyte X570 GAMING X - $269AUD

Gigabyte X570 UD - $290AUD

the b550 strix-f and b550 tomahawk are excellent, much better than the x570 gaming x and UD models.

i'd also look at the b550 tuf and b550 mortar.

I see you need wifi as well, my recommendations would be these:

To name some boards, these are all pretty good.

so I don't know if I should get an X570 or a newer B550.

the main difference between these two is that b550 allows the lanes that are wired to the cpu to be gen 4, while the lanes that are wired to the chipset are gen 3, on x570, it's gen 4 across the whole board, unless you need more gen 4 lanes, b550 is just as good.

Also if you're waiting for zen 3, then you could just wait and buy a board then and not now.

Out of these board if I chose to OC in the future which one seems to be the best for that? I heard the B550-F is quite easy to OC is that true?

all of the boards people are suggesting here are adequate for overclocking even a 3950x

Thank you, it seems like I was leaning in the right direction on what board to get.

Can't comment on Zen 3 obviously since we don't know how much current those chips will draw, but for a 3950X, all the boards above (even the lesser ones like the B550-A Pro and B550 Steel Legend) should be plenty good for overclocking.

I was just about to ask about the B550-A Pro and you've answered my question before I even asked it haha, ty
