Clean the M.2 fins and try again. Or try the other port.

Could it just be some setting on the bios or is it a hardware thing?

Can you please state which motherboard and specific model SSD you're using? Help us help you by providing links to the manufacturer's pages of the products.

Reset the bios first.

If already, it's probably the hardware since it's a newer board i can't think of anything it would be incompatible with your ssd.

Make sure it's clean and you properly install it.

This is not the issue. The issue is that he is trying to connect a SATA m.2 SSD to m.2 slots which only support the PCIe protocol. I checked his motherboard's manual:

1x M.2 slot (M2_2, Key M)* Supports PCIe 2.0 x4 2242/ 2260 /2280 storage devices

1x M.2 slot (M2_1, Key M)* Supports PCIe 3.0 x4 (1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen™/ Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics and 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Graphics) or PCIe 3.0 x2 (AMD® Athlon™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics) and SATA 6Gb/s 2242/ 2260 /2280 storage devices

Note: only with an AMD athlon can the m.2 slot support a SATA SSD.

So my ssd won't work with my mobo?

Unfortunately not! I had the opposite occur to me last month when a new SSD I bought didn't work with my mobo because the second m.2 slot was only for SATA SSDs like yours (the first slot was already pre-occupied).

You will have to get an adapter.

Can you please send me a link of one I didn't know these adapters existed

You need M.2 to SATA, not the way around.

Then you plug it in your sata port like a regular HDD.

Hmm put it where you put your hdd i think, you can put it anywhere you like, you don't have to put it in the m.2 slot.
