180W psu + RX460

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Hi guys!

I have an older i3 2120 pc with an 180w proprietary PSU. If I dropped an rx460 (which is a 75w TDP card) into it, how bad would it really perform? Most intensive thing played would be Skyrim.

Thanks!

No, that's why I'm considering it. I just want to make sure I'm not blowing anything up.

It doesn’t have 1 6pin?

It would either perform, or shutdown...

I suspect it would work (just barely), but your mileage may vary, and it might be close enough to the edge that literally connecting a few USB peripherals would cause system shutdown. (RGB Keyboards take like 5W, charging your phone is 5W, etc.)

You don't need a big PSU

Desktop:

Delidded Core i7 4770K - GTX 1070 ROG Strix - 16GB DDR3 - Lots of RGB lights I never change

Laptop:

HP Spectre X360 - i7 8560U - MX150 - 512GB SSD - 16GB DDR4 - I lost my pen so I convince myself I don't need it

So probably not worth it.

No probably not. Get a better PSU is possible.
