Power cable setup for RTX 3080

Is there any difference in running one 8pin pcie to dual 6+2 vs running two 8pin pcie to 6+2 when using an Rtx 3080?

Ideally you should be running two separate cables from the PSU.

I'm not sure it actually matters as if the PSU manufacturer has put 2x 8pin on a single cable then that cable must be rated to 300W.  (assuming its a good brand/model PSU that is, I wouldn't trust a cheapo)

Running two cables is more a "just to be on the safe side" scenario.

I'm running a Corsair rm750x so the cable are pretty good, but I think the asus tuf 3080 is rated at 340w not 300 (not sure if this makes a difference).

Depends on the PSU provider. A few stipulate this because they only use 16AWG wire on the 6+2 pins.

You mean 18AWG?

Most PSUs use 18AWG wiring afaik.

Yes 16. I'd point to stuff like the Corsair AX series that give no advice in their manuals about using separate cables for 6-2 pins versus EVGA from memory and a couple of others who do.

 

I know people have tested and two separate cables offer marginally better power delivery but the practical benefits unless you're on the absolute ragged edge are zero.
